There are a couple surf camps out here for kids with autism. They have a saturday thing you can go for a couple hours that is funded by regional center but you have to stay with your child for the day and your other kids can't surf or join in. Then there is a camp partially funded by our local autism society that is a 4 day surf camp for $150. Unfortunately I am a member of the north county ASA and you have to be a member of the SDASA to be able to go since it is so popular. Next year we are combining ASAs. Or you can pay private like $500 for a week to send your kid to surf camp for kids with special needs.
I wanted to do it for Mike this year but maybe next year. We are doing "Camp I Can" (Camp Including Children with Autism Now) this year instead.
If this is the story about the guy Izzy (I don't have a good connection for video here), we watched it story yesterday morning while having breakfast at the hotel. Peter was out of routine so was being even more... "Peter" than usual, and this man at a nearby table was giving us dirty looks, which we completely ignored.
Then this story came on, and I nudged Peter: "Dude, look at this! Would you like to try surfing?" Peter was all over that idea and I took a note of the info. The dirty looks changed. To what I don't know. I don't monitor anymore.
I would be interested in trying this. I think Peter would love it.
I am in touch with one of the Surfer's Healing dudes who lives year round and teaches surfing on Long Island and he is interested in working with Malcolm. I have to call him and start talking details. The Surfer's Healing people are coming to hold one of their camp days on Long Island in Sept. but the sign up date was April 1 and I didn't do it. I will let you know what I find out when I call the Long Island surf guy. Are you interested?

LOL,
Ya know that Saturday Surf camp I was talking about with regional center. It is the one from that story. "Surfers Healing".
Maybe I will look into it for this summer. Maybe DH can take Mike to the ocean for the day. He loves to play in the water and sand anyway.

Sara,
Absolutely! I live on the Island, so we can use my place as 'base camp' if need be.
