This family watchdog site is a database of registered sex offenders.
You can enter your address, and will see a map of your area, with your "house" in the middle. There are little pictures representing schools and playgrounds, and then color-coded squares, each representing the home or workplace of a registered sex offender. You can click on a colored square to see a photo and description of the offender and his crime.
One guy who lives a few miles from me looks like Santa Claus' thin brother -except he molested a 7yo boy. . Peter is 7.

Wow! This IS scary. There are several in my neighborhood and we are right by a big playground and several schools.
Good site to know about. I emailed it to several mom friends.
Thanks for letting us know.

Well, Oregon doesn't have a listing yet. Bummer. It has been on my mind recently on how to help my daughter understand bad people. It's so hard to know how much she understands. Does anyone have any ideas on this topic of how to address stranger danger to your AS kids? My daughter is naturally shy of strangers, but she is passive and on the obedient side, as in, will do whatever she's told. That scares the life out of me. Someone could just command her to "come here! Get in the car!" and I just know she would. And, even if she was reticent to get in their car, she could be easily fooled. Moreso than your average kid, right? How has anyone approaced this?
Is there some sort of cartoony video of sorts on stranger danger? She would probably understand that a bit better. Even books are hard for her to get. I think I need a cartoony video on everything for her. Where babies come from, etc. You know, like those old Disney wartime public education films on malaria and cleanliness, etc.

Thank you for sharing that link. I have checked on our state's website before, but it doesn't provide the map like this one does, which is good to see since we're new to the area.
It is SO sad (and scary) that we need to know this stuff, but I guess I'm glad it's out there to keep us educated.
Thanks again,
Laurie
