Well...Dakota had his first teeball game since being being put on his Tenex last night. I gave him the dose a bit early to see if it would help with his behavior any. OMG it was a disaster as usual! He didn't want to play in the field, kept walking out of the dugout in the middle of a play so they had to stop the game! He was having a tantrum when I kept him with me so he wouldn't walk out onto the field. Hitting me, kicking me (with cleats on mind you) and screaming. This isn't the first time he has acted like this at his games. When it is his turn to hit, the coach has a HELL of a time getting him to focus long enough to hit the ball, even off the tee. Then when he finally DOES hit the ball, he runs to second base or center field! I know everyone there thinks this is really cute and entertaining, but it's sooo hard for me to watch because I KNOW he is capable of doing so much better! He does it at home all the time! He almost NEVER needs the tee to hit and knows where to run. Could it be that the ball field, other kids and crowd are over-stimulating him? I don't know enough about PDD-NOS yet to know when he is having a problem or just misbehaving! Or if he is even capable of actually misbehaving on purpose? I want him to finish the season because I want him to know that when you start something you need to finish it...I asked him numerous times if he wanted to play baseball and he repeatedly said yes (with enthusiasm mind you) so I signed him up. One bright moment to last night's incident was the fact that one of his little friends from preschool was there that he hadn't seen in a while and they were overjoyed to see each other! The preschool was for kids with developmental disabilities, so they have alot in common. Chalen told his mother that my Dakota was his best buddy! When she told me that I was sooo happy because Dakota feels the same about him. We exchanged phone numbers so we could call each other and have the boys come over to play sometime during the summer. They are both entering kindergarten this year and I'm hoping they will end up in the same class. It was so cute to see them walking out of the ball park with their arms over each other's shoulders like little buddies! Here's to TRUE friendship!!!!

Hi!
My guess it was probably all the noise and stimulation overload at the field. I know Nick (AS) does NOT do good with crowds. He winds up and can't come down until we are somewhere quiet. It could also be that when expected to perform, the pressure was too much for him, he knew what he had to do (run to first), but there was so much going on around him, he was just under sensory overload. The meltdown in the stands seems to indicate that. Note to self, if you see him heading towards that, take off his shoes! His socks will get dirty, but your shins will be spared. I would rather have to bleach socks than to nurse bruised shins. Maybe next time if you see him getting wound up, take him for a walk to see if that brings him down a bit and then try going back to the game. It could be that he really does want to play baseball, but it is just too much for him. Watch for signs of overload.

That is awesome that he met up with his buddy though, it is always nice to see an old pal :)
Good luck!!
