Accepting Applications? This makes me wonder if this is now a paid position rather than volunteer.

I work 30+ hours per week in various volunteer positions. I am a IEP surrogate for our neighboring 14 school districts, a PTA board member, school volunteer, moderator on another asperger website as well as the Content manager and Chairman of the board of directors for a non-profit corporation which is completely volunteer at this time, as well as numerous other past and present volunteer work. I have had to fill out paperwork to be approved when working with children per law (background check that sort of thing) but never have I been asked to or asked one of our volunteers to apply for a position. Typically it is just the thrill that someone is willing to put in their own time and effort to help.

Just my 2 cents.

It's not a paid position. It's just applying to be the Cl (community leader). They generally want someone who posts on the board they are applying for so they'll have some subject knowledge of the board. You should apply- sounds like you would have lots of support and input on this board! I'm a newbie here but have gone through this cl application process on other boards.

I was a cl years ago. I have no interest in doing it again. I am moderator/administrator on 2 other autism boards outside ivillage. I continue to come here because there are always new parents that need support but I don't intend on being cl to do it. I won't go into the issues I have with the whole cl thing on the board since it will probably make a target for being banned. But if you want me to explain further you can email me at renee@asdrendrewolf.org

i agree with renee. the cl thing requires way too much as i have done it before. obviously the admin of this site do not have children with special needs. for if they did, they would decreased the requirements of being the so-called-cl. we run fine on our own here these days, not to say that we don't miss the cl's of the past.

Another former iVillage special needs board CL chiming in here: Even if it was a paid position, I would think twice before applying. It's sad, because it wasn't always so, but there seems to be no empathy or understanding among TPTB in iVillage for the challenges of special needs parenting or for running a special needs board.

It is not like 'celebrity chatter' or 'small space living' or some of the more "happy" boards. On a SN board, the CL is a position of authority and "BTDT-ness" proving support and advice to people which can affect their lves and the lives of their children. It's not about "Friday fives" or your favorite color. In other words it is (and should be) about *quality* not quantity.

Dude, my kid punches himself in the face and I need help with that. Who gives a ...care about my favorite flower?
