Welcome to the AS/PDD board. It can be common to get professionals to listen in a situation where you have a child with an invisible disability like a high functioning ASD and they are doing well holding it together away from home. Even sometimes when they are not holding it together. My oldest was dx'ed ASD at 4 and in special needs preschool since 3. We moved states when she was 5. A year after that she was doing so well we tried to take her off an IEP. Within 6 months it was obvious she needed to go back on an IEP but even THEN some of the school professionals insisted she was not on the spectrum and tried to tell me she had a conduct disorder and just needed more structure at home. Very frustrating but at least I still had outside diagnosis which helped.
It sounds like you are on the right track but it is very frustrating. You may want to ask for the reports in advance or not sign the IEP until you are sure you are comfortable with it. You can bring your results here and we may be able to be of some assistance. It is not uncommon for kids with HFA/AS to test well on paper but still be struggling educationally and need an IEP. It depends on how proactive the school is and how observant they are.
Also, beyond the 504 there is a new thing called Response to Intervention. This is available for all children and basically it is where even if a child does not yet have an IEP they can get early help particularly in academics. It is to help try to keep some of those borderline kids from getting too far behind.
