MIKE SWAM IN THE DEEP END OF THE POOL TODAY!!!!!!!!!!

I know it is a silly sounding thing but this is sooooooooooo huge for him and he is SOOOO proud of himself, and yes we spend tons of time in the water every summer. It is one of his anxieties.

Up to about 6, Mike would only stay on the stairs and splash around unless I was holding him. Up until 4 even the holding him didn't really fly, lol. Then around 7-8 he would go off the stairs and stay right in the area of the stairs when swimming. Finally either last year or the end of the year before he would venture the whole shallow end. This year started the same way. Panic anytime he gets near the line. We have been at my mom's everyday this week so far swimming so I would keep reminding him it was ok, I was there and encouraging him. He finally did it!

First he and I swam together near the wall out to the stairs. When he saw how far he had gone and realized it was shorter to go across the pool he agreed to do it with me. Then he kept doing it over and over on his own!

The kid is a natural in the water. THe best natural swimmer of the bunch. I am SOOOO proud of him and glad he has this. We will be spending alot of time swimming this summer I do think.

WTG MIKE!

My kids are pretty good about the water, I haven't been hampered with that particular problem yet. But we're still working on the bicycle thing with my 6yo.

Dave and she can work on it together, lol. I was hoping he would win the perfect attendance bike so he would be interested in trying without the training wheels again but no go.

He likes his big wheel though.

She likes riding but is ambiguous about her training wheels. She went through a phase of really wanting them off, so finally her dad took them off. Then she had one accedent, didn't actually fall down since the 18yo neighbor was helping her and caught her before she hit the pavement. But close is good enough for her. Now she wants the wheels back on and DH is not having any of it. He says he refuses to get caught in the 'put them on / take them off' loop.

And she's so torn. It's such a huge delima for her. She really wants to ride witout the training wheels because all the other kids on the block ride without them, including the 4yo down the street. She only got teased once, by a kid that doesn't even live here, and the neighbor kids lit into that other kid something serious for teasing her. But she still has emotional problems over the training wheels, but at the same time is terrified to ride without them.

AWESOME!!!!!! WTG Mike!

There is a program that travels around the country teaching kids (typical and special needs) to lose the training wheels......several parents in our area swear by it. Check out their website.......3 Ws dot losethetrainingwheels dot org

"Do you think the new supps are helping, or was he just ready to do this on his own?"

No clue, it is very hard to say. He did nearly have a meltdown soon after over a small frustration around swimming. His mask didn't fit just right and was bothering his hair. He started to really lose it and I was able to redirect him. On the one hand the vitamins didn't help stop that bit, on the other the new skill was very exciting (ie overstimulating) so perhaps the vitamins didn't stand a chance.

He also has started back on his bug phobia which has been gone for 3 years. That has me worried. But he is more easy to joke with and more interested in being joked around with and flexible in that joking. So I am at a quandry. I can't say there is a definite "yup this is helping". At first the joking and flexibility were really noticable but that only lasted a couple days adn now some things are better and some are worse (like the bugs)

Changes could be because of the supps, or it could also be that he does really well on vacation once he gets into the swing of it and over the transition of school to vacation. Or it could be just natural development that I am seeing too much into.
