Bit of a brag

First of all, David's 2nd grade class did a musical today. He was so cute! He was a boll weevil. He remembered his lines, and he did the dances and songs. He's been real enthusiastic about it, and at home, he has sung the songs to me many times. He he has a really high pitched voice, and when he sings, loud and strong, he kind of sounds like the choir boy from Raymond Brigg's "The Snowman" LOL! He didn't seem as sure of himself with all the other kids, and I suspect he's not sure how to make his voice fit in. I know I have that problem when everyone is singing, and they all seem to have higher or lower voices. Still, he did sing, and the play was a success. One strange thing, though: His kindergarten teacher came up to me afterwards and asked if David has been taking dance or gymnastics, because he was animated, and danced so well. That was a wonderful compliment, but I couldn't help but think she had him confused with another student. I am VERY proud of him, but I'd hardly say he was animated...and this is a kid who is unable to come down stairs without crashing. Then again, at the kindergarten play, he hid behind the teacher's desk and cried, so he really has come a long way.

Second brag is about Nathan (4.5): We've got this toy that has a tiny little keyboard and miniture screen for people to send messages to each other. Most of Nathan's messages to me were things like, "QWETYDKLS", and most of my messages to him were things like, "BUG IN A RUG" or "CAT IN A HAT", which he read very well. Then he sent me a message that said, "ILKEVRYTHAG", and as he sent it, he shouted, "It says, 'I like everything!'" I was so impressed! I was also pleased at his positive message.

Just thought I'd share.

Awesome brags! Way to Go David on the play! Way to go nathan on the reading and writing and being positive!

Nice days make it all worthwhile.

I still get all choked up when I remember Mike's 2nd grade play. The only one he really participated in. He had a teacher then (male hispanic teacher for 1/2 his day) who just really knew how to get things out of him naturally. It was a moment of normalcy and he just looked so typical and sweet and had such a good time.

Evelyn,
That is great news! I understand your joy about the teacher saying how animated he was because that is a tough thing to do with our kids.

I'm so impressed that David was able to get up on stage and do his part in the play! That's fantastic! I know how proud you must be of that and how far he's come.

I can relate the kindergarden eppisode, too. When Ian was in preschool the kids did a little song and hand movement thing on the little risers at their "graduation." Ian just stood as still as a stone. Didn't sing, no hand movements, nothing.

I'm so happy for David's accomplishment!

Cool with the text messager, too!

Evelyn,

That's so cool that David was able to stand up and do all of that!! I'd be a real proud mom too!!! I also thought that Nathan spelling that sentence out was just FABULOUS!! I got little goose bumps when I read that....so sweet!!!
