blood allergy results from DAN! doctor

We met with the allergist/DAN! doctor this morning to go over Aidan's blood panel (still haven't been able to get the urine, stool or hair samples). I'm still in a little shock. I really don't know what we're going to feed him. He's allergic to a ton of stuff. They divided it into three groups. Those with three stars were the most severe, then two, then one. So we're supposed to get him off the 3-star ones first and so on.

3 stars:
gluten (no big surprise)
milk (again, no surprise)
peanuts (surprised)
soybeans
wheat
yogurt.
There were a lot of grains that only showed up as one stars, but because of they contain gluten, they have to be considered 3-stars; same with cheeses due to milk. Oddly, yeast didn't show as a trigger even though it was a top-tier one on the skin test - but he still has to avoid it. Same with mushrooms - makes me wonder if those are more tied to his mold allergies.

2 stars:
coconut
peas

1 stars:
lima beans
blueberries
cashews
corn
eggs
mustard
nutrasweet
rye
sesame
walnuts
watermelon

Yikes!! The soy allergy is going to cause some problems since that's what all the non-dairy butters and fake cheese are made from. So I have no idea how we'll be able to bake anything for him. I can get fake eggs, but I don't know of any butter substitutes that don't have soy or milk. Does anybody here know of any butter-subs that are both casein and soy free????

They also did some in-depth blood analysis on him. he's slightly hypoglycemic and he has a slight hypothryroid problem. He's low on saturated fats and a little high on Omega 3s. There were other issues that showed up but he said pretty much all of them are likely to correct once we get his diet under control. He recommended

Here are some of the suggestion. Stay away from 3 and 2 and rotate the 1 every week so he will not form allergies towards it.

FOr milk, you can buy Vance Dari free milk. FOr cheese you can get Vegan rice cheese from galaxy international. Since eggs and corn are 1, you can use them one at a time.

For yeast issue, we use biotin in our house. Also we use good probiotics.

As if trying to figure out what to feed DS isn't enough, now I'm getting backlash from other parents that I'm doing him serious harm by putting him on this diet and that the allergy tests (skin and blood) are a bunch of hooey. In an effort to be helpful, my aunt posted basically what I posted here in some groups she's in online - her son has auditory processing issues and ADD. She forwarded me the comments and they're all saying that the allergy tests are unreliable, that B12 shots are only for people with some rare anemia and will do him harm and he shouldn't need all these supplements. Another said I should be very concerned about him getting rickets or osteoporosis.

It is all making me crazy and making me second guess myself. I just want my baby to be healthy and as successful as he can be. Right now he's not healthy. His allergies are horrible - he looks like he's been in a prize fight. He doesn't eat - he's 21 mo brother weighs as much as him (he's 5 next month). He is just bones. At every meal every day I have to beg, nag, threaten, bribe to get him to eat just a little. I watched him eating tonight and just about cried - his black circles under his eyes and his thin face and boney arms, pale face. I'm just terrified of what will become of him if we don't get his diet fixed and I can't help but think that food allergies would definitely play into it.

I just hate feeling like I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't. If you don't try it, you're a horrible parent to withhold a potentially life-changing treatment. If you do try it, you're a horrible parent for denying your child all those foods and for not loving them as they are and grasping at straws to try and change them rather than accept them.

Trisha,

I'm chiming in very late on this and I'm sorry. I didn't feel I had much to add to the conversation until now. However, I saw some comments that you re-posted from other people that I feel obliged to correct.
