Since I am fairly new to the autism journey, I have been trying to read as much as I can. I have already read, "The Boy Who Loved Windows","A Different Kind of Perfect"(which I LOVED), and I ordered,"The Explosive Child",by Ross Green. Hayden's ot recommended that one. Any other suggestions?
TIA,
Chrissy

Oh dear lordie, yes we have recomendations.
What sort of books are you currently interested in? General autism information? behavioral interventions? First person experience (parent or person with autism)? Social skills?
Give me some ideas and I can give you a list.
For a good over all general book check out Chantal Sicile-Kira's book on Autism Spectrum Disorders. Make sure it isn't the "Adolescents on the Autism Spectrum" but the one that is just on Autism Spectrum Disorders. The covers are very similar. Both are good books but I would start with the one I mentioned for now.

First person, parents....
Finding Ben. -I loved this one. I think because Ben is my age (pre-Aspergers era) and I always wondered what it would be like to parent our kids then. Plus it is very real and honest. I cried at the end because it hit so close to home. I don't do that often. I also like the fact that it is about an older person so you feel like you get some finality or closure. Lots of the parent books are written when the kids are still kids and man it is tough for me then. Like "So what happens NOW!"
Raising Blaze - a good one. Blaze I think eventually is diagnosed PDD-NOS but he is one of those kinds of kids that defies diagnosis. Good book though.
Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime - actually a fiction novel but really good. If that boy isn't Mike, I don't know who is.
There are tons more but those are my personal favorites.
Information
I definitely would start with the one I recomended previously.
Also for good overviews there is Mitzi Waltz's books. She does a great job. (I was actually interviewed for her PDD-NOS book a million years ago but I don't think I was quoted, lol).
The OASIS guide to Aspergers is always a good bet.
Finally, for all moms of SN kids. A definite MUST READ "More than a Mom". Find it, read it, live it, breathe it.
