Cait has always had a wonderful memory. Well this year (4th grade) she has to memorize poems. For 2 weeks in a row now she comes home with the new poem. Skims it and tells me she is done. So I tested her and sure enough, had it down cold. OK so right after she reads it she knows it, so I ask her again the next day. Again, without rereading it, memorized verbatim including the authors name.

Also, had to let you all know what a WONDERFUL teacher she has this year. This lady calls me at home to check in and let me know if anything even minor of concern is going on. Offered to modify Cait's homework if needed. Only wants to know Cait can do it so as long as she does a few if she gets stressed don't push her to finish. (She can have problems with staying focused) Writes regular notes home. Sent Cait a postcard in the mail commending her on her great work this year.

Oh and she actually notices and addresses it when Cait is struggling. We do have to work on organization skills, focusing and social skills, but I knew that, last years teacher just didn't take the time to notice.

Now at home Cait is finishing her homework independently, her chores and checklists without being reminded and without a fuss, is happy and nice to be around. THis is my girl when things are going good and she is not stressed. Plus she is actually learning new stuff.

I am a very happy mom!!!!!! (well at least there, then there is Mike's teacher, but it si Friday and I am not letting that woman bug me today!)

Hi Renee, I'm glad Cait's school yr. is off to a good start. Good Luck for the entire year. Isn't it great that one of the characteristics of AS is the good memory? Sarah was really good @ memorizing lines for the school play & also she is great @ spelling. I don't know why, but they are blessed I think with that positive trait. We don't start school till next week. Sarah just found out who her new teacher is today. She is pretty strict & 1 time in 4th gr. gave Sarah & a friend no recess 'cause they were spinning around together on some playground equip. after she said only 1 @ a time! I am leary of this lady & Sarah didn't want her this yr. Oh well, only time will tell. I hope Cait continues to do well & good luck with Mike too. I guess his teacher isn't what you expected either. I am going to bring in some AS info to her next week before school starts & try to get a feel for her. BTW We are not going to Dr. Norall in the fall. I didn't care for her. We are going to Dr. Oke in the UTC area. She seemed nicer & it's closer to my house. Take Care~ MaryAnn

Never heard of Dr. Oke, but I hope he/she is good. Best of luck with that. As for Dr. Norall, I am not to terribly shocked. I think she is either over rated or was quite good but let the fame go to her head. That is unfortunate because she had some good ideas.

We are seeing a psychologist up here in Vista on Saturdays, but I think he is in San diego the rest of teh week. I have been really pleased so if Dr. Oke doesn't work out you could give him a try.
