Cait's Asperger Poem
| Thu, 05-18-2006 - 6:21pm |
If there is one thing my girl can do it is write poetry. At least for a 6th grader, lol. This came home from school today. It was part of an assignment for her AS social skills class.
Asperger's!!!!
You may think it's a disease.
It's actually not, it's a disability that is never at ease.
You can't see it, though it's not fake.
I work so hard, though I never get a break.
I never get a “Jail-Free” card.
Because it's way too hard.
One thing you need to know.
Is I'm not slow.
I just need time to grow.

Teresa,
I didn't know that about the Brontes My money is on Emily -or maybe both. However, Charlotte managed to function in the world, whereas Emily really didn't. I'll have to re-read "Wuthering Heights" now...
Hmmm. Cathy the fearless, crag-climbing, wild-child...

I'd have to go with Emily too, lol. A little insight into the world of an aspie before anyone knew what it was.

Ok now I'm crying my eyes out again after reading one of Emily's poems.
"... As friendless after eighteen years
As lone as on my natal day
There have been times I cannot hide
There have been times when this was drear
When my sad soul forgot its pride
And longed for one to love me here..."
If that's not post-adolescent Aspie need for companionship and understanding. I don't know what is.
Stab me in the heart, Emily, why don't you?
I'm to find the Kleenex and eye drops.
