Hi,
I'm Lainie.
Re-delurking...I'm Chrissy, sahm to 3, wife to 1, living in MO.
My dd is 8, NT, and brilliant.
okay, I'll delurk! My name is Susan, I moved to the Seattle area a year ago with DH, DD age 10 and NT and DS age 8 adhd and?? I love this board - my son has a long history with quirky and although not diagnosed as pdd or aspie, it's more than ADHD. Our move really brought out a lot of anxiety for him, so we recently completed a fresh new set of testing. The results were.... adhd and at risk for dysgraphia. The doctor did put in his report that there is "no one label that can accurately describe x". My mommy gut tells me that it probably isn't spectrum. Some of it is similar, and this board is really the best. So, that's why I lurk. I also have 3 good friends with ASD kids (met thru early intervention) so I read up to help them too. I am looking for a good social skills group in the Seattle area - any recommendations?

My name is Janet.
Hello, I'm Nora and I'm from Pittsburgh PA. My son Adam is who brings me here. We were dx'd 4-19-06 w/PDD. He is now 4yrs old and attends a special ed prechool 3x per week (side brag--rides the school bus this year and LOVES it) He gets speech and OT thru school.
Outside of school he was recieveing OT via a therepy center but tested out after one year of intense service, I keep the school OT just in case he slips KWIM. He is still taking speech via the therepy center and his language has tripled over the time since his dx.
Other intests we have him in is gymnastics and swimming which greatly help him out. He has an aide assist him in gymnastics just to keep him on task.
We also just GOT OVER THE POTTY HURDLE----I can assure you it can be done for those who are battling as we speak.
Glad to see some new faces to this board. This just a great place when you need someone to understand what you might be felling.
Welcom Everybody!!!!

Hello, I mostly lurk these days but have been on this board forever. Since Cait was in 1st grade. She was diagnosed in preschool so been at it a while. I live in So. Cal.
I am Renee, I have 4 kids. My oldest 2; Cait and Mike are ASD.
Cait is 13 and also has a seizure disorder. She is in 8th grade in a full inclusion special education classroom for children with Aspergers/ASD. She was doing great this year but is starting to struggle a bit again.
Cait loves animals and theater. She has done theraputic horseback riding since kindie and has volunteered there for the past 2 years. We have tons of pets, lol. She is currently in her 5th play in a minor role. She is in "101 Dalmations" as Scottie #1 and the DogCatcher, lol. Talk about multiple personalities. It is the best for her, mixing both obsessions, animals and plays.
Mike is 11 and in 6th grade in a non-public school for children with special needs. There are only 30 students in his school and it suits him perfectly. He is doing pretty well there. He had a great special day class teacher for the last 3 years in elementary school and transitions are always hard. Even in his school he is being exposed to middle school stuff I prefer he wasn't introduced to (Like Halo). He has no filter so unfortunately we are dealing with a lot of obsession on violent content and cuss words that he didn't know before. Some melt downs too. But over all he is doing well and growing up all the time. I think he may even have a crush on a girl!
Mike loves fantasy stories and fiction of all sorts. He loves to read, watch movies and play games that have this sort of story to them. He has been "writing" a book for about 6 months now. It HAS to be exactly 100 pages because all books that aren't for little kids are at least 100 pages, lol. So I formated the computer so the pages are landscape and collumned so he thinks one page is 2 like it looks in a book. Put it on double space and voila, we are at 50 pages nearly.
Mike is incredibly smart, a huge helper and very compassionate but unfortunately sometimes his autism gets in the way of that and sometimes it helps.
Emily and Dave (9 and 7) are mostly typical, lol. Emily is a sweatie peetie who is in the gifted program but also flirts with LD's. Dave is also academically gifted but flirts with the edges of the spectrum as well and has been on and off IEP's since 3 and is currently off and hopefully will stay that way!
I am a teacher (special ed) and so is DH. We specialized in children with autism before the kids were born. DH stuck with it and I stayed home for about 7 years but stayed involved. I am back in my own class this year teaching a reverse mainstream preschool class for children with autism and going to school so now I mostly lurk.
