Hi everyone!
I feel like I have become more of a lurker anymore! Christine here from NE Ohio, Nick is who brings me here. Nick turned 5 in June and was dx'd ADHD in March, then Asperger's in June when we figured there was "something else going on". He is also a tad OCD and has horrible social anxiety. He is in a mainstream class and we are sludging through the evaluation stage of the IEP process right now. He is having a tough go in school right now. He holds it together during the day and unleashes at home. The past couple of weeks have been a nightmare. Hard to see Nick in turmoil like this. Anyways, he is supersmart, loves monster trucks (and that is about it!), takes an act of God to get him in the bath, but he is my sunshine and I wouldn't have him any other way (except the bath thingy!). This board has been my saving grace sometimes, these women are wonderful!

Chrissy,

Glad to see you posting. I can think of at least one other person who might be going through the same transition. I hope you guys can help each other out through this.

Susan,

Thanks for coming out of lurkdom. I hope you will post a bit more now.

I don't think we have too may people in the Seattle area on the board. -only one that I can think of off the top of my head.

Have you contacted your local chapter of the ASA? Even if you dont; have an official DX they coudl be a great resource for you (CHADD might be another). Also

We're glad you found us too. It really makes a huge difference to have access to people who totally "get it" even if they are miles away over the Internet.

Thank You!
There are 4 things you cannot recover.
1. The Stone.......after the throw.
2. The Word........after it's said.
3. The Occasion......after it's loss.
4. The Time.........after it's gone.

I'm not here as much as I was... lots of kid activities keeping me busy. Welcome to all the new faces and those who have returned to grace our board.

I'm Betsy, wife to Michael, a computer software geek, mom to 5 kids who are getting bigger than me! We are in South Carolina, originally from several places in Illinois and took a 12 yr pit stop in Wisconsin.

My middle child (and middle son),Weston, brings me to this board. His Dx is autism, tho high functioning in lots of ways he's also very much affected in his day to day life. He is 11 yrs old and fully mainstreamed with tons of supports in 6th grade. Our district has a separate campus for 6th grade which is wonderful for us for this year, but not so wonderful that they're finally getting a good program in place for him and then he'll have to transition again next year to a new bigger school. Our school district does not have an appropriate program for him as he's in honors classes for math and language arts and yet needs constant support (this district also has a policy of no aides for mainstreamed children--- much rolling of eyes from the mom here!), so he has a special ed/resource teacher who is constantly checking on him and helping him go back to class. He receives OT, and SLT at school. We're looking into a psychologist/psychiatrist for his anxiety issues but need to get on the list for an appointment at the developmental peds again.

I also have Warren 16, ADD and on an IEP. He's in 10th grade and this year is doing wonderfully! I'm hoping it continues! I'm also hoping it's maturity and we're finally over the hump! we took him off all ADD meds this summer and he's doing great, even better at school than when on the meds. He's even gaining a little weight!!!

My DD Martha, 8, is on an IEP for dyslexia. We focused on her this summer, getting a good Dx and lots of individual attention to the issues she faces. She is on an IEP but not getting good services at school. I think now that Weston is more settled I'll start pushing on her education!

Amelia, 14, is my most NT child, she has LD issues that we've overcome. She's a little prone to anxiety and ocd but not enough to affect her daily life. Owen, 5, is in private kindergarten and doing very well. Originally he was given a provisional dx of ADHD, He has sensory issues but I think with the OT we've done he's doing so much better. The Dr even thought that he might have been wrong about the ADHD and that it might have been all sensory-- tho we'll keep an eye on it, as I think he's still very impulsive and it could come out again when he's in public school next year.
