Okay tonite we went to a boyscouts thing for awards and all. My 7
yr old totally lost it, hyper, crawling under the chairs, doing
facial things, odd dances, touching chairs, twirling, licking his
paper plate in line waiting to get the food, making the outburst sounds,
and then.... flipping me off while running when we
were trying to catch him to leave early.
I know he gets stressed out at cubscouts, as I have taken him and
see it. He tics the whole time, but I seem to be the only one that
knows there tics. He will do outburst sounds, arm punches, say bbbbb
over and over again, bite people in the air and lick his leg over and over.
Everyone else just gets mad at him.
It was a bad night, Tony (DH) is in deniel of the possibility he
has Tourettes. He's still trying to adjust to the possibility of the
Aspergers dx, along with the bi-polar, sensory issues, thought disorder
and some OCD of my older son. He's getting better with it, but still not quite
there.
Just before we left for the ceremony, my son did an outburst of FU
FU FU FU FU extremely loud outside getting in the car. Tony
didn't witness this as he was already at the church helping to set
up.
Anyway, I am trying to figure this all out. He has sensory issues and OCD,
I can tell, but was he hyper because of the sensory issues at the meeting, or
could he also have a bit of adhd? He usually doesn't get this bad
with the hyper thing at home or school, even though he is obviously
impulsive.
Any idea guys?
Thanks,
Lainie

Wow, Lainie!
Wow Evelyn, thank you! You made me feel like I'm not all alone, because frankly after last night, I was doubting myself on the difference between behavior and neurological ya know?
You know I'm getting used to the outbursts with bad words, so I ignore it. Last sunday morning tho I do feel bad as I was sleeping and he was in our room for something and he did a odd loud sound outburst, and I was half asleep and said stop it Nic.... then felt bad because I forgot he really can't help himself.
When he did the FU getting in the car, I was lucky as no one was outside lolool, but I know someday it will happen, so I'm gonna have to start preparing for my reaction for those moments. So far when he flipped me off, I didn't react at all, just kept on trying to chase him lol.
Thank you again, I am gonna go back and re-read your post again. I haven't had my first cup of coffee yet, and I don't want to miss anything lol.
Hey Lanie,
Liam was the exact same in situations like that, and like with Evelyn it was before we had a legit dx and the right medication.
Thank you Dee! I'm so glad I came here and posted this as you guys have shown me I'm not the only one, and my son isn't out of control because of bad parenting. I have to say, when he flipped me off, I was turning the brightest shade of red, while also trying not to react to it while I could see all eyes on us lololol. My god, especially Boy Scouts, as the organization is quite a bit more religious than we are lol.
Oh well.
I also was able to show my husband that other kids on the spectrum have behaved this way, and its neurological, not behavior.
Nicholas hasn't even seen a doc yet, trying to get thru Christopher (see my other thread on his dx :() and have an appt with the ped to be referred for nicholas on the tourettes.
You know the weird thing is, watching and knowing both boys, I would say Chris would definetly be on the spectrum, but Nicholas I would consider having the traits of AS but having Tourettes being a more dominete DX.....
I just don't get it lol.
