Cassian is officially a big brother!

Hi everyone. Well, it seemed like an incredibly long energy-draining pregnancy for me, but the birth experience and afterwards have been fantastic. Tristan Thomas Parker-Price was born Tuesday, 8/16/2005 at 10:50 a.m. by repeat c-section. He weighed in at 6lbs 14oz and was 21 ins long. He is a beautiful baby and already seems much easier than Cassian was at that age. Anyone who wants to see pictures can email me at mom2cassian@yahoo.com. I will send you a few.

Cassian is overjoyed at being a big brother. He is very affectionate with Tristan, and we have all been amazed at his sensitivity toward the baby. We do have to prompt him to be aware when he is doing things like opening his books near the baby or talking very loudly near him. But Cassian observes these new rules with acceptance. He is spontaneously affectionate towards his little brother, kissing him, singing him songs he has made up, and calling him "my baby." He wants to hold him quite a lot, but we are very careful to lay down the law about that. He can hold him when sitting down and under supervision of Tim or me. It is really very cute to see.

Tim is loving being a Daddy the 2nd time and declares it is soooooo much easier than it was with Cassian. My parents are helping out here for another week, and we have had a lot of phone calls from relatives and friends.

My hospital experience was funny in that no one there could believe I was 40 yrs old. They said, I was the most energetic mom in the ward that week. I guess I was pumped up because the pregnancy had been so draining for me. A few hours after having Tristan delivered, my back no longer hurt; I could breath deeply; my bladder wasn't perpetually full; my PUPP rash no longer itched; there was no more gestational diabetes; the almost constant nausea and exhaustion had vanished, etc., etc. Ironically, my insomnia during pregnancy was so bad that I am now getting more sleep with nighttime feedings than I was before I delivered. A few days after delivery, I attended a discharge "class" in the maternity ward that they require all moms to go to, and everyone but me was hobbling around looking like they were in pain. None of the other moms could believe I had had a baby the same day they had.

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you all that things are going well for us. This is the first moment I have had to check the board since having Tristan, and I have missed everyone here.

Congratulations, Suzi! I'm glad you all are doing well. Just reading your post, I keep remembering the sweet smell of my little newborn babies. Give Tristan a big kiss on his fuzzy little noggin for me. I'm one of these people who hardly ever strikes up a conversation with a stranger, but I'm drawn by some magnetic-like force to newborn babies...MUST...GO...LOOK...AT...BABY. LOL!

Anyway, since everything went so well, and you're feeling so great, I guess we'll be seeing a lot of you. You'll be nursing Tristan and typing at the same time; all that good stuff. LOL!

congratulations on the new baby.

isn't it amusing what will surprise hospital staff? When I had Finn (at age 20), everyone was fascinated that I didn't scream, swear (just once said S word and in a rather calm tone of voice :D)... and that I managed all this with an epidural that had to be turned off because it almost stopped labor and

Suzi,

WOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!

I am so happy for you, Tim and Cassian. I remember all the questioning and heartache you went through before the pregnancy, and feel honored to have shared (vicariously) this experience with you.

I am glad you feel so great now. You deserve to! This pregnancy has been a long and arduous journey for you. It not over, so enjoy the breather while you can...

Congratulations! Babies are so wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed all 4 of mine. Though I will admit everything leading up to the birth (other than the getting pregnant part ;-) SUCKED. I hated being pregnant and was so miserable each time for various reasons out of my control. So I was definitely energized after.

Glad you are feeling well.

Suzi and family,

Congratulations!!! I cried reading about how sweet Cassian is being with his new baby brother. My favorite parts of being pregnant were right after when I could breath again and not have to pee every 10 secs so I know what you mean. God Bless you and keep you, Vicky
