cell phones and school.....

I bought Chase a firefly cell phone in the event he needed me or something went wrong at school. As I've mentioned, he only goes one hour a day and has never been in the public school setting. The school is not trained in ASD's. A firefly only allows him to call me for his dad. A note came home today saying he can't have it so I'm outta there. To be honest I was almost looking for an excuse and this was just the one I needed. Chase wanders off easily and is very naive...I had explained this to them but I get the feeling that they just don't get it. Since I'm home schooling it's just not worth the effort.

geez. Can they be a bit helpful in teh accomodation department? I told Cait's school this as well. They wanted me to get her a cell phone rather than being responsible for her. Problem is she loses EVERYTHING! I told them I would get ehr a cell if they could guarantee it wouldn't get lost at school.

She is getting better so I will consider it. I just have to talk her dad into it. Thing is, I am not worried about her running up minutes. She is not a big phone talker anyway.

I've been thinking about getting Haley one of those too. She really wants one.

That's a real shame that the school wouldn't at least try and work with you about the phone. :(

Last spring when son was accepted at new school I thought about getting him a cel phone. Electronics become obsessions with him. I gave him a prepay when he travelled with his father. Dad would not let son use his cel to call me. Yes xh is a loser. Anyway son wasted 2 hours of phone time. He dialed the phone during meals, in the car, on the golf course, bathroom etc. Many times he did not realize that he had sent send. Someone (Dad) locked the phone so son could not dial. So son did not get a cel phone for school. EVERYTIME we see a display son begs for one. Xh parents have offered a cel phone but I respond.. "my phone number is listed,I pay for unlimited phone calls if someone wants to speak to my son or if he wants to call someone then use my house phone". Son is not a big phone talker and no one calls for him.
