I don't know about the ripping but I know that if I have a little hole or a thread or something like that, I have to pick at it.
Hi Lainie!
This came up when Nick had his sensory eval.

Hey Lainie- just a word of caution about the tearing of clothing.
Ya, I figured it was something related to Anxiety, and lately the risperadol just isn't calming him as much.
Mollie
Hi Lainie,
Speaking of Christmas programs, I'll never forget Nick's first Christmas program that they did at his daycare.

Oh yes, we went thru this with Victor. 2nd grade was particularly hard for him. He had a total meltdown that year and ended up under a row of unused desks in his classroom when the class presented a play to the 2nd grade. Took me 3 hours to talk him out from under there before I could even take him home.
In 1st grade, Victor started cutting his shoelaces when he was "bored" then he graduated to cutting his socks and shorts. After he realized he was getting yelled at, that's when the chewing started. He's got several shirts that he's worried a hole right into the fabric. Well, Dad and I realized that we both wear necklaces and when we're stressed/bored/indifferent, we chew on the necklaces. SO I get this bright idea, go out and spend $30 on a silver rope chain for him. The next day he wears it to school and he's SO proud and so handsome. He comes home that afternoon in tears. When I asked him why he was upset he shows me a broken necklace. I asked what happened. He said "I didn't mean to chew on it mom, but I think I chewed thru it." Sure as shooting, he had chewed thru the necklace. We noticed that when we got him out of 2nd grade from a teacher who could not keep a schedule to save her life, the chewing lessened, and then when we found his 4th grade magic teacher, the chewing stopped. In 5th grade when we had evil woman, the chewing started again but when he switched rooms, it stopped completely again. I do think it's a stim or a tic to help them keep under control and it's up to us to find those nasty little triggers that like to hide.
