He went to the NP and did a test (can't remember what its called) but the NP showed me earlier and it was cards with pictures of things people do. Like the one I remember most was a family sitting around a table (very 1950's look, black and white).

The NP said he would show him the picture and ask Christopher to add to the scene and tell a short story.

I went in after, Chris came and got me in the waiting room and the doc said Chris was very reluctant to finish this test, for what reason he didn't know. Chris added "And I don't know why"

Anyway, this reminds me of the times Chris "Won't talk" when he has to explain something, or tell someone something he doesn't understand, or just plain shuts down....

Can you all tell me something about this?

Is this something thats related to AS? I have a feeling it is, but for me I have a strong need to understand behavior, and I don't understand this. Never have.

Thanks,
Lainie

I do believe this is part of the AS package. Maybe related to executive function? My son frequently does this too. He will also say he "can't remember" if I try to talk to him about things that happen during the day. He will shut down and claim he can't do assignments that we know he can. I know it's frustrating. We are trying so hard to help them along. When I see him starting to shutdown I let him have a "brain break" and relax a while. Now when he feels himself getting overwhelmed with homework he asks for a brain break. We feel is terrific progress. Now if I can only get the school onboard! I do remember the test you are describing but I don't know the name of it.
