I was shocked to see the numbers at 75% as YES. Most people I run into now--Autism families--are on board with the statement that vaccines do not. (I'll reserve my opinion but if you're curious you can find out where I stand on my blog.)

What I thought was interesting was that the medical documentation did not have to be submitted. This leads me to believe the gov already had it and knew they were in trouble.

If vaccines caused or triggered Autism in kids, how come kids that don't get vaccinated still get Autism?

They think there are a variety of ways to create autism. 1% of autistic kids are thought to be a genetic defect , but the other 99% are of unknown cause. The thought on vaccines is that it triggers it for those children who are susceptable to it.

I was kind of surprised by that poll too, but I also agree with Amy.

Mitochondrial disease can vary in severity. There are children/adults who die from it. I have a friend whose child has mito and she is confined to a wheelchair, tube-fed, and unable to talk or even hold herself up. But, she has the most beautiful smile! It will light up a room. She does not have autism. I believe that mito is referred to as a disease because so many people are severely affected by it and have shortened life spans as a result. Her family is trying to raise awareness of mito disease and recently her dad was on LA Ink having his daughter's portrait tatooed on his forearm order to raise awareness. Here is an explanation of mito that her dad shares with those who are confused about what exactly it is:

Mitochondrial diseases result from failures of the mitochondria, specialized compartments present in every cell except red blood cells. Mitochondria are responsible for creating more than 90 % of the energy needed by the body to sustain life and support growth. When they fail, less and less energy is generated within the cell. Cell injury and even cell death follow. If this proscess is repeated throughout the body, systems fail, and the life of the person in whom this is happening becomes severely compromised. The disease primarily affects children. Diseases of the Mitochondria appear to cause the most damage to the brain, heart, liver, skeletal muscles, kidneys, endocrine and respiratory systems.

Hope this helps give a better understanding of mitochondrial disease.
