Renee,
I'm so sorry I missed it, but thanks for letting us know about it. I enjoyed reading all the comments that people had.

Thanks for the heads up. I watched it with dh and it was really interesting. Isn't Cait an animal lover too? I thought it was great how she was able to make a living out of one of her obsessions. She seemed pretty similar to Temple Grandin in ways.
Thanks again,
Teresa
Funny you mention that. That girl reminded me of Cait alot. Cait came in and watched it with me (I thought she was interested, lol) And I asked what she thought. She shrugged and said "Can I watch animal planet now" ROFL. She did comment on how the dogs were cute! I can totally picture Cait doing that!
It is funny because I know my kids hear and see more than I do and things that seem meaningless to me but the tar out of them, but I am not sure Cait totally understood the piece. I don't think what they showed is exactly how it looks to her and it is kind of like when you need glasses. If you have always had poor eyesight then you don't know that you do. You only know that you see different when you put on glasses. Put on top of that a problem with perspective taking and I don't think she understood that part at all, lol.
It was really interesting to me when Katrin said that she had anxiety and would shut down in public and the dog helped her back to her car. I can totally see both of my kids do that. When Cait goes into meltdown mode she is just gone. At school she withdraws and shuts down, at home it is meltdown but she is totally not there with you and unreasonable. This happens to Mike more than Cait but he tends to go into fight or flight mode.
Makes me want to get our doggie trained as a service dog for Cait though as she begins to get independent. A service dog for her when she is independent is not a bad idea at all. I would feel better about her venturing into the world alone with a companion.

I am so bummed out that I missed this. Does anyone know if there's a way to see it online? I'll check myself.
I did read some of the email comments. I really have a need to see how older kids and adults who are AS or at that end of the spectrum interpret the world. If helps me know what to be more sensitive to, I think.
