My son is 6 and was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 4.

It is quite possible to have ADHD concurrently with an ASD.

I have the same story. I knew something was wrong early and got an adhd dx which I never felt was right for several years I tried to find a dr that could figure out exactly what was going on. I had suspected he was an aspie finally when we went in for a med adjust last fall we saw a different dr she saw something different agreeed to retest and made a dx.

Finding the right Dr makes the difference and if you feel things aren't quite right keep going it took me 7 yrs to get an answer. The more important part is no matter the official dx is working with to identify problem areas and implementing therapies is more important

Don't beat yourself up about not seeing it until now.

I wouldn't beat your self up for him being "punished" even people that know what might be wrong at an early age sometimes can't always get the school on board to help.

If you don't think the meds are working correctly you might want to talk to the Dr, it's possible that he may need an increase, as kids grow the old dosages sometimes become ineffective.
