Sylvia has been constipated for the past few days... Normally she's like clockwork in that area, no issues at all, but for the past few days she's been going much less than usual, and what comes out is small and hard. (How's that for being delicate about kind of an icky subject?) But she's been running around the living room now for an hour, GRUNTING like crazy. I keep asking her if she has to sit on the potty and she says "No." Periodically I check her pullup and nothing is in there... She seems happy as a clam, but I really am going crazy listening to this grunting!!!

Any advice on how to loosen her up? She's sadly on a "no fruit" jag -- normally she loves fruit but for the past week or two she only wants to eat raisins and bananas (neither of which is really helping matters). She doesn't like juice, and she's been drinking plenty of water. Can you think of anything else I can give her to help her along?

jennifer,

how about some epsom salt in her water? it probably wouldn't take much to get things moving...it should give some suggestions on the container.

or maybe a really good tickling session where you really concentrate on tickling her belly region so it will stimulate her intestines. just not to the point where it makes her uncomfortable.

poor thing! i have heard apricot nectar, but if she won't drink juice. what if you made it into a popsicle? valerie

If she likes raisins do you think she would eat those dried prunes?? I believe prunes are suppose to get the system "moving"

Hi,
Get magnesium capsule (100 mg) and open it up and add to her drink. That should do the trick Or you can give mineral oil (my son lived on it for first 5 yrs). Now I give mag. capsule one every day.

Warm water with some baking soda in it. Sounds nuts but it works for some reason. OR try an infant supossitory (totally mispelled)
It's small enough just to lube her.
Sorry about the no fruit thing. Peaches work like a dream

Thank you guys so much! I'll give everything a try. I think that we'll start with the apricot nectar popsicles, since I think she'll really like those, and move on from there. And about the baking soda in water: the weird thing is that over the weekend I was baking cookies with her and when I turned my back on her for a second she had poured some baking soda into her palm and eaten it. GROOOOSSS!!! But maybe she knew something I didn't...?

Hopefully the cork will pop soon!

I give my kids liquid magnesium citrate when they are constipated but not the dose it says on the bottle. Usually just about an ounce.

Well, problem solved... and I didn't even have time to try any of the remedies that anyone suggested! Sylvia refused to eat any dinner last night -- she must have been feeling really blocked up -- but last night and this morning she managed to clear herself out. And boy was she STARVING this morning!!! LOL

I'm going to keep all of those suggestions on hand, though, in case this happens again. Thanks everyone!

You asked the right person, because I am always contipated. I literally can not go without help. I used to ahve to take an exlax once a week or I just wouldn't go. ANyway, my Dr. turned me onto Activa yogurt- the one with bifidus regularis and IT WORKS! I am so gald to be off the exlax. Here is the link about it:

I started going like the day after I started eating it.

Not sure if someone else has already told you this, but DD does not eat fruit but she loves 'fruit leathers' so I get the organic ones from Trader Joe's. they are about a quarter each....lemme see if i can find a link
