I read it...way, way back. To be honest, I thought it was fine as a fiction story, but was bothered by the misleading idea(s) it seemed to profess. (Like the little boy gaining communication skills almost overnight, etc.) To me, it was the kind of book that makes people believe you can cure autism...which those of us who have been in the trentches more years than we'd like to remember know isn't true. In fact, I wouldn't allow my mom to borrow it, because I knew she wouldn't be able to determine fact from fiction.
About a month after I read the book, a friend (who I consider at least somewhat educated about the subject) who'd read the book called me to say, "Why haven't you tried these things with Claire?" Needless to say, she proved my point very well.
