David's been falling apart all day

He's been so irritable, it's driving me nuts. Everything has ended in a big fight. DH and I try not to let it get to us, but when David starts slamming his fist on a computer that we can't afford to replace, it's hard not to get a little irate.

He's been frustrated all day because there are things he really wants to do, but he can't. He wants to work on a computer program that he's writing, but he's come to a point where he's not sure how to do something. He was looking forward to getting help from his dad, who is a software engineer, but his dad's answer was to give him a verbal list of possible key words to look up in a tutorial. It was completely not what David expected, so he went nuts and said he was never going to try programming again.

After moping around for a while, talking about how much he hates his life, he decided he wants to play a table top role-playing game, as long as it isn't like any of the table top RPGs he's seen before. His dad tried to give him ideas, and David angrily shot down each one.

In an attempt to lighten the mood and do something enjoyable, we asked the boys if they would like to go out for ice cream. Everyone said yes, but then David announced that he hates leaving the house so much that there was no way he was coming with us, even if it means doing without the ice cream that he really wants. Eventually we all gave up on the idea. Once again, we can't do normal family things together, because everything centers around his mood. (I could have made a huge fuss and forced him to come, but then we'd have a lousy time in public instead of in private.)

Lastly, but not least, it's been about three weeks since David had a shower or washed his face. I made the mistake of mentioning that he needs to shower tonight. Another major meltdown. Well, it's almost 8:30 now, and I'm done fighting.

DH has just made me a cup of tea, so I'm going to go sit with him.

Sometimes I wonder why David has to be so unhappy all the time. I can just hear him, "It's not MY fault!"

Hey! A mosquito just bit me!!! That is so not fair! Grrrr!

Update: Well now he's happy as can be. Talk about mood swings! It's amazing how quickly life improves when he's in a good mood. Now I feel like a big whinebag for complaining about the rest of the day. LOL!

LOL ya mood disorder central lol. It is the way it is.

You know on showers though I can get chris to do so when there's a logical reason. So I have picked sunday nights and the logical reason because he has to go to to school tomorrow and everyone starts out clean.

It doesn't always work, but most times it does. And yes my kids will go 3 weeks without a shower too cuz I just can't get them to do so.

And with the teeth brushing my god I am just so glad I can get them to the dentist for a cleaning every 6 months without a fight.

Sometimes if chris won't leave the house and we want to go out for ice cream we just leave. We leave a phone by him, lock the door and take our cell phones so we know he's safe. We won't interrupt everyone else's happiness over his. So we set things up.

It's all so hard.
