She is scared about going to the doctor. She was acting strange all day yesterday, not eating and whining. I thought maybe she was sick. It wasn't till today that I made the connection. Duh. She was worrying about today. She is supposed to go to her day camp this morning. She says she won't go to camp or to the Dr. She's under the covers and won't come out and won't say anthing except I'm not going. I have a feeling its going to be a long day.

That sounds like Mike. He often thinks they are going to kill him or do something horrible. Often I assume that they understand the doctor won't hurt them but that isn't always the case.

I try in advance to find out EXACTLY what the appointment will be like and explain it step by step to mike with pictures if need be. Then (if appropriate) I will tell him there will be no shots, he will not have to take off his clothes, we are just going to talk, etc. If he is not comfortable with anything and gets upset we don't have to do it. And I have him bring an activity like a book or gameboy that he can focus on if he needs to drown us out for a while.

It seems to help for us. That and my letters to the doctors explaining the plan and a little about Mike so they are in on it and helpful.
