Ok, if nothing else, this diet we are on is really saving me on dental dollars. NOT A SINGLE CAVITY for all 4 kids!

AND Mr Mike was awesome! He said he didn't even need me to go back with him, lol. I went to check anyway and they were about to do a new kind of x-ray. My Son asked if there was going to be a flash (He Hates flashes) and when they said no he said he would do it! Way to self-advocate little man! All without my prompting.

This was all right after his appointment with his play therapist. He had been in a lousy place all morning, I had forgotten to warn him about the dentist but after his hour with her he was in a really great place. Yeah for Mike. Yeah for Sara!

Dear Renee,

Yay for ... Oh, Sara the THERAPIST lol.

Congrats on multiple kid lack of cavities and Mike's good dentist visit! Hip, Hip, Hooray! He's growing up, and steppin' out!!!

We also just had a great doctor visit, Malcolm's first eye doctor, and yup, little dude needs glasses, although he doesn't have to wear them much this year if he doesn't have to. Boo, I was so crossing my fingers that he would get dh's 20/20 vision and NOT my almost blind inheritance. Still hoping his eyes don't go as bad as mine did. He's fairly non-plussed about whole thing, though, as he has several pals with glasses.

Didn't even get a recommendation for this doc, just picked him out of plan ... and he knew ALL about SID and ASD, plus his waiting room had tons of video games and great kid magazines, etc. And he just slipped those eye drops in, Malcolm didn't like it at all, but no melt down and really Malcolm was a trooper big time...

Anyways, great news. Big time congratulations.

I know about the eye sight thing. Poor Mike. Of all my kids he is the only one so far who got my lousy eyesight (20/400 w/o glasses). Mike is currently up to about 20/150 or so and gets worse each year. This is the age mine deteriorated fast too because of how thier body is growing.

He is supposed to wear his glasses all the time but it is a pain getting him too. It is a pain even getting him to keep track of them. And they are ultra expensive flexible frames with ultra tough lenses that transition to sun glasses. He leaves them on the floor and is sensitive to sunlight. Fortunately I have a plan where they are replaced if broken but not if lost.

Can you tell this is a frustration. Ooops, told I have ot put dinner on the table.

Don't feel bad. We didn't even get him there at all until he was about 6. The first try at 3 was a disaster and we didn't bother again for a couple years. Even then it was ugly with the first time I was sitting on top of him restraining him. Next time I think I just would let his teeth rot. He was a bit better the second time then we switched dentists and this new guy is so mellow, kind, gentle and easy going it has been great.

They took thier time with Mike and totally listened to all my ideas for making it successful. They never made him do anything that was uncomfortable.

This was the first visit that went this well. Mike is comfortable with them and trusts them so it was no problem. It was totally the dentist. I found this guy just by calling around from my health plan list and telling them when I called, "I have a son with autism. Can you take us and do you have any ideas how you would manage that". These folks were kind and had lots of good ideas and said the right things. I love them.

Now if I can just find a barber or hairdresser for my budding Beatle.

My advice? Go to my dentist. The guy is so gentle I barely notice he is in my mouth. I get nervous too but not anymore. Some people are just gifted and I feel blessed we found him.
