Developmental ped as primary doc???

Does anyone see a developmental pediatrician as their primary pediatrician?
My current pediatrician is fine....except that she didn't take my concerns about DD (3 yr 2 mos PDD-NOS) as serious as I'd have liked last year at our age 2 appointment, and i more or less went on without here and called Early Intervention etc... So now I am wondering if I want to just go ahead and switch to a dp as her primary doc. Thought I'd see if anyone else was doing this and get any feedback etc....?

I don't use our developmental ped, but did call our RDI consultant and asked for a list of "ASD Friendly" doctors and chose from the list..... Good luck!
**Our Dev. Ped. was always booked and it just didn't seem like a good option for just checkups....
One thing you might want to consider is how willing the dev ped would be to see your child for "little" things (ear infections, stomach bugs, strep throat, etc.) I know that, particularly in the winter months, we're running back and forth to our ped on a regular basis, and I can't imagine that our dev ped -- who has a VERY booked schedule -- would be able to accomodate us in those kinds of circumstances...
Just a thought!

I agree with the others. Going to a Developmental Ped for a sniffle is kind of like using a sledgehammer on a pushpin.
I concentrated instead on 'training' or peds. I found the women in the practice much easier to train, BTW, while the men were really only useful for the sniffles.

I have a developmental ped for our primary ped but we kind of fell into it. She works in a regular pediatricians office as a regular ped who also happens to be a developmental ped. When I was looking for a pediatrician initially I asked a bunch of questions and wanted one who was ASD friendly. I asked the office when I called and they automatically said "Oh you want dr. P as your primary".
She has been great even for the sniffles because for a few years there even the sniffles were an autistic issue since any trip to the doc was an autistic issue. It is also nice having access to her for loads of problems. She is the one who got things moving for Cait after her first seizure.
I LOVEEEEEEE my pediatrician for a million reasons and one of them is her background in child development. However, she also knows when she has met her match as far as expertease goes and always is willing to make referrals.
