Paula,
That must have been a repeat because I saw that episode a couple of weeks ago. It's DH's favourite show and he watches it all the time. The funny thing is Jason can totally relate to the character (house) and I can see similarities but Aspergers? I think it's more like a shadow syndrome. How are you feeling by the way?

I saw it!
I don't usually watch House, but was flipping through the channels last night and came across it, and the little boy with autism piqued my interst of course :)
I don't know his character well enough to have an opinion I guess, but interesting none the less.
I will have to keep watching!!

I saw it a couple weeks ago too - I felt the underlying saga of the office carpet pointed at something a bit spectrum-esque.

Very interesting show - the boy with Kanner's reminds me of my neighbors' 7yo son a lot.

I saw the last half a few weeks ago and again last night. I still have yet to see the beginning. My DH said it was being replayed because the baseball game had been rained out.

I thought it was alright enough. The AS topic was barely breezed over saying that House had it then he didn't. We like the show because of the main character. If nothing else, he is certainly a character. He is disabled but it is a physical disability. And he is socially inept in that he is kind of an A$$ and just doesn't give a ---- what others think about him. He doesn't like change either and thinks he is a god. He's got issues but I don't think he is AS.

I saw it two weeks ago (we are big fans here) and was *shouting* "YES, YES!!" when Wilson started reading the Aspergers info. I don't know if he has it or not... but I did think it was possible and it would be so cool to see it addressed on a regular basis since he is the lead character in the series.

The line the kind of 'punched me in the face' was Cuddy's reply of "He doesn't have Aspergers... he's just a jerk." And then Wilson more or less agreed! It kind of left me wondering... where do we draw the line for something like that? I mean... *yes*, he is a jerk in so many ways... but couldn't he be a jerk on the spectrum? Or if he is on the spectrum is he 'exempt' from jerkdom? Isn't just 'being a jerk' to survive their own loneliness an option for those who don't feel like they belong? Not the best choice, sure... but an option.

I still think I have Aspergers... and it seems to me that in my life I've had three options in how to 'get by' with what I used to think was 'my personality'.

#1: In grade school, I never spoke to anyone because I didn't want to seem different. I wasn't completely nonverbal... but I certainly wasn't taking one step out of my way to be social to anyone my age. I might mess up.

#2: Beginning in High school and more in college I started talking all the time to everyone I met because I was tired of hiding and really couldn't hold myself to a 'happy medium'... I decided I'd rather be the weird friend who talks all the time about all that nonsense (Meanwhile... second guessing everything I say, always wondering if I said something wrong and occationally going 'into hiding' cause I felt like I *did* say or do something wrong without being told so) than the 'shy kid' who never spoke. That's still where I am... I still get very involved in message boards and other groups then disappear over *nothing*... then I'm afraid to come back because *that* seems rude too. You get the idea.

#3: I've never had the guts/audacity to try the 'House' option... but isn't it an option? *Actually* quit trying to make everyone around me happy. Don't clam up or try and 'fix' what I percieve I've said wrong with more words... digging an endless pit of feeling like I 'messed up'. Just live my life and (at least outwardly) never be concerned with what 'they' think. Is that *necessarily* being a jerk? Couldn't he just be trying to be himself without feeling guilty about it?

LOL... so all in all I'm saying... "yep, I saw it". And I've thought about it *way* too much. Those few lines themselves have become a little 'mini obsession' of mine. :)

I saw the show a while ago as well. I like the show.....mainly the character of House himself and I agree with Renee......he's an a$$ with an "I could give a sh*t less" attitude but I don't think AS......although the carpet thing was interesting.....

I thought the child actor did a good job of portraying an autistic (Kanners).......I especially like the end......he had a connecting moment with HOuse (giving him the electronic game) but he still did not have eye contact

I have been a huge Hugh Laurie fan for years, so I watch the show when I have a chance (not that often anymore).

Well, Teresa, to kind of answer your question: I watched the show from an examining room in the ER, which was interesting. I'm OK. Siobhan's ped. had a look at my arm, which was sore and red after the recent IV treatments and advised me to get a sonogram ASAP to

Ya know as far as shows portraying AS type main characters there are lots of other ones I like a WHOLE lot more.

Grisham from the Original CSI, The nerdy, young genius on Criminal Minds, and I really loved the portrayal of the guy on Boston Legal last year. That was quite moving and scary. I know alot of adult AS'ers didn't like it because the guy was arrested for an outburst. However, it was completely over an injustice and panic and otherwise this guy is completely harmless and lovable and very typical Aspie. Oh, and they actually did diagnose him with AS and talked about it. It was a story line for a few weeks.

I admit, House is socially inept. I love the guys acting. It cracks us up. But I just don't think AS in this case.
