Do you ever wonder what the future holds for your child that is on the spectrum?

I just love my son so much and want to put my arms around him and protect him from any and all hurt that he may encounter.

Hi Debi, I am pretty new to this board, with a newly diagnosed 6 year old.

My son just started 7th grade this year and in our district its the first year of middle school. I can't trust my son to get up and get ready to go to school on his own. Does yours ride the regular ed bus? Mine doesn't he rides the sped bus. Mine too is high functioning. He too has a lot of anger issues and since starting middle school it has gotten worse. I am not saying yours will but mine did.

Is your child able to get up now and get ready on his own? If not maybe buy him an alarm clock and see if that works to wake him up. Make sure you have a schedule up and he knows exactly what he needs to do to get ready on his own.

Yes I do worry my son will be unable to make it as an adult. Like your son little things set him off. Just a little about my son. He was angry that part of his Dsi was not working. He was angry at me and I found out that he stepped on it and he was angry with me about it. He still wasn't getting it that he was the cause and he is 14. He had told me that it just stopped working. So yes how in the world will he be able to hold down a job. He doesn't seem to understand time. A min to him could be an hour so I can't trust him to get out the door on his own for school and the bus picks up from the front of our house. His anger is really bad this year and I don't know what to do to calm him. Its really bad it's like he has regressed this year. Wonderful puberty and all those hormones. Dawn
