After assuring dd I'd be with her the whole time and she wouldn't get any shots I just left her alone in her bed. I couldn't address her fears as she wouldn't talk about what they were, the nature of her disability makes it hard. Any way she did come downstairs and once I got her supplements into her she started to come out of it. She was still nervous at the NP office but she talked and didn't shut down. I really liked the NP. She is new to DAN and treating kids but its what she wants to start doing more and is very willing to learn. I prefer that to a doc who already thinks they know everything and has a my way attitude. She was pretty certain we are dealing with a heavy metal problem with dd. She said to keep her supplements the same for now except to add sea kelp to boost her iodine. Dd's iodine level was low on the hair test and since we swim a lot she'll need even more iodine. Chlorine depletes iodine. We are going to do a bunch of tests, the ION panel, complete thyroid panel, steroid horomone test, CBC/chemistry profile. Once those tests are in we'll have a really complete picture of what is going on with her biochemistry. The only thing we aren't doing right now is the food sensitivity tests. We'll go back to see her after we have the results and make a treatment plan from there. We are going to take ds to see her too once we have our savings built back up. I'm happy to finally have a health care provider who actually wants to find out what exactly is going on and help rather than just telling us to go to therapy. Nothing wrong with therapy but if you are dealing with chemical/hormonal imbalances there is only so little therapy can do.

I am so glad to hear it went well. I know you were worried about her anxiety level. It sounds like you have a good doctor too. That's interesting about the chlorine. We are about to have a bunch of tests done by the GI in July, we're starting with the food intolerance/allergy route and we also think there's the possibility of celiac in the mix. Our GI isn't a DAN, but most of his practice is autstic kids, he says, and he is willing to test for whatever I want, I just need to read up and figure out what.
Glad you have someone you can work with and I hope you get some good answers and solutions.

Glad it went well! It is so good to find a professional you can trust.
It is so hard to keep all the stuff straight and what we should do. I was thinking about the comment on go to therapy. If it only were that easy. You have to do therapy to, but what kind? How Much? And it is only a piece of the puzzle. Or perhaps if you are talking the different kinds of therapies it is different pieces of the autism puzzle. Then add in the heatlh pieces of biomed, etc. UGH. I hope some day SOMEONE figures out how to fit all those pieces together. Not to cure the autism but to help them live happy, productive, non-anxietal lives.

Renee, I was referring to the therapy they reccomend for Selective Mutism mainly, play or behavior therapy. I was so frustrated by the previous doctor I took dd to. I asked her to run some test to look at her nuerotransmitters and other biochemistry. She had no interest in that and said to send her back to therapy (after I'd told her of our previous attempts which were totally counter productive) and figure out what exactly she is anxious about. She just completely didn't get it.
I think most of the autism therapies are wonderful and many have helped both ds and dd a lot. I do think they are all peices of the puzzle and need to be done togeather with the biomed to address the health peice.
