Dd's appt with the DAN nurse practitioner is tomorrow. We went ahead and ordered a DDI hair elements test for her so we'd have it to take with us. I got the results today. She meets one of the "counting rules", just barely though, which inticates possible mercury toxicity. And her copper reading was very high. I knew she was needing zinc, which lowers copper. With her being so close to just meeting the one counting rule I'm not sure if she has mercury toxicity, copper toxicity, or both. I really hope the DAN knows her stuff and can help me sort this out. I'm a little concerned about her lead reading too. I was still in the green but getting too close for my comfort to the upper reference range. Her calcium was pretty high too. I'm finding it interesting to compare her and ds hair tests. His was mostly all low in the essential elements. Hers is half high, half low. You know what else I noticed. We did Kyle's in June when he was 8yrs old the same as dd's. I guess that's the magic age here, lol.
Wish us luck.

Good luck at the appointment.
It will be interesting to hear what the NP has to say and what to do. I still haven't convinced DH to do DAN or any of the tests yet but we are getting closer all the time.

Renee,
If its something your interested in a hair test is very easy to order, no doctor needed, and can be very enlightening. Its also inexpensive compared to the other tests. And fairly easy on the kid, no needles. Although dd keeps razzing me about giving her "barbie hair." Her idea of playing with barbies is cutting all their hair off. Now I certainly didn't cut all her hair off. You can't even see where I cut it but she keeps feeling the spots with her finger and giving me a hard time, lol.
You know the lady you guys just started seeing sounds pretty close to a DAN dr. As long as the person has a clue it doesn't matter if they've had the DAN training. In fact a lot of DR's who have had the DAN training still don't have a clue!

Thanks,
I will look into it. She asked about Mike and chelation. Back when Mike was about 3-4 or so my husband even said Mike was like one of those kids affected by immunizations but I said "he is only ADHD, not Autistic!". However, he had a point at the time. Mike always had some symptoms like being tactile defensive from birth and separation anxiety, but something changed drastically around 18 months. He began to wake from naps screaming for hours and he became much more difficult to manage behaviorally.
However, now my DH thinks that all the vaccine stuff is hogwash because some reports came out disproving it. He is a district guy who is very into his science and has become a bit of a crumudgeon about that sort of thing. I am not sure he totally buys into what I am doing but he allows it. I have gotten him to buy into enough of it though.
I see the psych again in 2 weeks so I will ask her then and I will look up the hair tests. That is one thing DH had seemed to accept. He read a report on mercury levels in hair of kids with ASD so perhaps that will help.
