Hi,i have a lovely & lively son called Joe who is nearly 9.last year he was diagnosed as having mild pdd-nos.At home it is not so noticable but school is completly different. He finds it very hard to control his temper.he will go from 0-10 in seconds.although he has a sen and a statement nothing school is doing seems to be working.asd team have finally started working with him after endless nagging, first week has gone really well.has Anyone got any ideas that i can try at home for anger.just to let you know we've tried counting to 10 & 20,starjumps,saying a funny word in our head, deep breathing and going for a walk.none seem to work.Any suggestions would be very welcome.thanks for taking time to read this.Yvonne xxx

I'm going to be completely unhelpful since we haven't found any solutions that work for us (fortunately ds behaves at school and saves all his meltdowns for home). However, this past week the therapist had ds try coming up with his own list of calming techniques. So far ds has been completely unwilling to consider trying anything on the list when he's angry, but this afternoon when he was only in moderate meltdown mode, I reminded him that his list of techniques is a CHECKlist, so he has to check off when he's tried a technique. I asked him how he was going to report back to the therapist if he hadn't even tried any of the techniques. That got him thinking about it a little, so I'm hopeful that he'll try harder to implement his own suggestions for calming techniques during his next meltdown.

hi, thanks for the idea of a checklist,at this point i'm willing to try anything.sounds like it might have some impact as he has the ability to go from 20 to 0 if someone says a funny word to him at 20.just reminding school that it works seems to be falling on deaf ears.the chaecklist could work for both teacher and sna and most importantly Joe.thanks again,Yvonne.xxx
