Dresser fell on DS yesterday

My son Jacob (almost 2.5yrs old) has his obsession with opening and closing drawers or anything that opens and closes...so yesterday in his room, he was playing with the dresser drawers and I heard the thump and him crying like crazy...he's okay, just a few scratches on his back. He wasen't climbing up it, I think it just tipped on him...he was on his stomach and it was completely on top of him...so now tomorrow we are buying the saftey hooks you can buy for that purpose. Of all the things I hear of and think to myself, that won't happen to us, well it's starting to happen...kind of scary!

Wow, I'm glad he wasn't badly hurt. We live in CA, pretty much on top of the Hayward Fault, so all of our stuff like that is strapped to the wall. I'm glad they are, too, because my kids do more than their share of climbing furniture.

Your story reminds me of when David learned to climb out of his crib at the age of almost 3. (Yes, that's right, he was almost 3. LOL!) He was sounding very pleased with himself, and I went into his room to find him sitting on the dresser that was next to the crib. He had his lampshade in his hand. He had unscrewed the lampshade with the lightbulb in it, and the exposed light socket was right there just asking for a little finger to be stuck in it. (If I remember right, the light wasn't on at the time, but still! I nearly had a heart attack!)

Parenting is so much fun. Never a dull moment.

That is very scary. Glad he is ok.

That is definitely one thing about living with kids with autism. Never a dull moment and it puts new meaning on babyproofing. (our lightsocket incident was half a nightlight in one hand and the other half sticking out of the socket and my son ready to poke the broken glass and electrical components.)

Keri,

I'm glad Jacob is ok. It's never a dull moment with our kids!!! Even though Nathan is 7 now, I still have to remind about not touching things. He once walked into the laundry room where my dh was ironing....and touched the hot iron!!!! He told no one! Instead, he ran to the bathroom and ran his hand under cold water. At least he remembered "what" to do!! I came running because he was screaming about his hand burning and that it wouldn't stop!! I figured it out once I saw the blister on his finger. I asked him if he touched the iron and he finally said yes...after I had asked him a couple of times. So now, everytime he's around something that is hot.....I remind him not to touch. He seems to still need that reminder!

Speaking of "not telling anyone", like your Nathan's iron incident---David is really, really, REALLY terrified of dogs. One time, in a rare moment of talking about real-life stuff, he told me that he thinks one of the reasons he's so scared is because of a certain incident. Apparently, when my Nathan was tiny, and David was close to his 4th birthday, I was in my room nursing Nathan. David LEFT THE HOUSE and went for a little walk! He passed by someone's fenced-in back yard, and the dog who lives there started barking and scared the stuffing out of David. This is something David only told me about two or three years later. I still can hardly believe it. I mean, my Mommy Radar is ALWAYS on, and I'm ALWAYS aware of what they both are doing, especially David when he was that age. I suspect DH might have been home, working in the garage or something, so I let my guard down. I don't know. Pretty scary.

Often you can get what you need at a home improvement store like Lowes or Home Depot. At least you can out here. It isn't uncommon because of the possibility of earthquakes. But if you go there or to a hardware store and ask about what you need to anchor dressers to the wall they could probably tell you what you need. You can even get stuff to work from the regular hardware section.

Reminds me that I have a couple things I need to address that issue with.
