Happy birthday, Owen!!! Good luck and have fun! It sounds like you put a lot of thought into this party, and I'm sure Owen will love it.
We actually just had Sylvia's 4th birthday party last weekend. Like you, we really oriented everything around what we thought Sylvia could handle: we only invited 3 kids, planned lots of short, simple, structured activities, and planned it for a time of day when Sylvia would be at her best. It really worked out well. I did find that when there was a lull in the activities, the other 3 kids would run around playing (and getting into trouble) whereas Sylvia would just kind of wander around the living room, unsure of what to do. But if I saw that happening, I would just herd the kids back into the living room and start another activity. We did a Blues Clues theme: the kids searched around the house for clues (the answer to which was, "ice cream cake," lol!) and we did lots of activities that they've done on Blues Clues (color detective, making paper bag puppets, freeze dance, etc.) It was definitely a successful party, but it's funny -- watching Sylvie and watching the other kids, all I could think was, some days I'm glad Sylvia's not NT... I'm not sure I could handle those kids, LOL!!!
I love the craft you've planned and all the related games -- very creative! Have a blast and take lots of pictures, and be sure to let us know how it went!
Your plans sound great. Good luck! We will have a party soon too. DS is turning four and it will be the first time we have had a "kids" party....just 3 close friends. I am still trying to think of activities. Chrissy
Hope everything goes well with the party! Sounds like lots of fun!
Nathan turns 7 on Sunday, but we're just having a little party with his dad, me and his brother. This year he said that he didn't want anyone to come over. He only wanted to have a party with us. When he was younger, we did the party thing....just as we do with his brother. But now that he's older, he's able to express what he likes and doesn't like. Small gatherings are more his style!!
Happy Birthday, Owen!!! Sounds like it will be a lot of fun! You're so lucky you have supportive kids and parents to be involved.
We haven't been so lucky with birthdays the past few years. Alex wants SO badly to have friends, and wants to have real birthday parties (nothing fancy; he's thrilled having kids over and have cake and games, etc.). Last year he wanted a party at home, so we did. 3 kids showed up (and grandpop, which was great). Fortunately, he was oblivious to the fact that only 3 kids out of 8 showed up, and he ended up having a good time. The year before (7th birthday), we did a bowling party. Again, 3 kids out of 8 showed up. Not sure what we'll do this year - I'm hoping to talk him into inviting 1 or 2 and having dinner and go to see a movie!
