The PE teacher called me to let me know ds is officially failing PE. The say the strategies the OT came up with aren't working and ds is not participating at all therefor he is failing. Apparently the APE consultant was there last week. She is coming again tomorrow. I said I wanted to be in on the meeting. This is frustrating. Anyone got an advice?

Yeah, now maybe you will have the fire power you need to force them to put him in APE. Aside from standardized testing, it is obvious he cannot hold up in mainstream PE. They need to come up with some sort of support plan for him that will work or it is time for a change.

Sorry to jump in, but what is APE? Right now my AS son has P.E. twice a week. One class is taught by a My way or the Highway type who's been with the school since the beginning of time. The other is taught by a young lady, fresh out of college who just loves my son. You can guess which class he has trouble in! Next year both classes will be taught by Sgt. Nasty. My son is already fretting about this and I'm trying to figure out what to ask for in his plan next year. BTW When I asked the team to address the P.E. issue, they evaluated the lady's class and said everything was wonderful. No action needed!

APE is Adaptive Physical Education.

Tell them to re-evaluate and do it in the class with SGT. Nasty.

Is APE an alternative? In our school MS and HS, APE is mostly severly handicapped kids. Amelia has a good friend who is wheelchair bound, but fairly physically fit and very NT. She is excused from PE because a. the classes available are not appropriate and b. whenever she changes medications (sometimes during the year sometimes not) there is always a month or so waiting period before her body gets accustomed to the new med and she is not allowed to sweat or get over heated. Her parents had to sign a waiver saying that she was getting outside exercise and that the available classes were not apporpriate. She just takes another elective instead of PE.

I have no idea what else to suggest, just hope he is able to get through.
