Ginny,

There is no need to be worried until there is a need to be worried. The abnormal waviform patterns on the EEG readings could be "artifact" i.e. interference in the signal from his touching/

well I wouldn't be too worried but it is worth looking into and being cautious.

Because autism is a neurological thing it is very common for kids to have abnormal eeg's and it may really be nothing more than just a slightly abnormal EEG. No other effect that than. My youngest son has a severely abnormal EEG and other than a bit of ADHD and some history of seizures (which have disappeared) he is one gifted ok dude. His EEG is consistent with someone with severe cognitive deficit too. An EEG is just a tool to gain info and an abnormal EEG is worth looking into but isn't doom and gloom.

On the other hand up to 1/3 of kids with ASD also have some sort of seizure disorder so it isn't something you want to just blow off either and not do the testing. It is worth checking into to be sure.

My oldest has a seizure disorder and at 3 she had an EEG which we were told showed "nothing significant". When I asked what that meant they said she didn't have any seizures during the EEG time. WELLLLLLL I found out later that this is common but it appears she had an abnormal EEG and the doctor at that time blew it off. We didn't find out until she was 7 that she was having mini seizures and seizures in her sleep all that time.
