Well, yesterday after I got off of work I stopped our area Special Education Coop because I heard they had an autism consultant there. The ladies I needed to talk to weren't there but left my name & number. After arriving home and falling asleep after being up since 1pm the night before but was short lived with a call from the teacher. Stated Dakota was acting up & was about to leave for their field trip to the farmer's market and library. She asked if I could come and meet them. Basically hang out there for Dakota's sake. Despite being soooooo tired I got up & left. Dakota was very good when I was there and I stayed with them until they left to head back to school.
Later that day we saw the university counselor (basically a graduate student) and things went well. Dakota even talked some...mostly talked silly off the wall stuff but he was quite vocal. The last counselor and even the child psychiatrist he barely said two words and those were forced. He was literally bouncing around the room...partly cause he was nervous but very inquisitive about the things in the room. He was first to notice the camera...(it was being taped so the session could be discussed w his professor & I was told ahead of...the session will go no farther). He notices everything and was amusing when Dakota came up for the reasons for their use which was usually something funny like there's lava in there when pointing at a pipe. Overall we were able to pull some stuff out of Dakota and it was quite interesting. We get to go back and will be a weekly thing so thats good.
Today the behavior specialist called me & we met up at McDonalds. Gave her the low down on what was going on...that he was suspended 3 times in two weeks. Past history, diagnosis, medications, etc. She looked over the 3 yr IEP report I had brought & was pleased to see they did have a couple behavior forms already in place. She is going to talk to his teacher on Monday & see about getting a more in depth behavior positive/negative behavior form in place plus suggest to the teacher and principal that the autism consultant be brought in, too. She sees the need. So hopefully this is will turn into a positive thing. I know it won't get better overnight but it's a start. Cross your fingers for me.
Well, gotta take the kids over to a friend. Dakota begged me to allow him to stay the night there. Sierra will be tagging along as well since there will be a girl there her age. As for me, no relaxation for me...I'm oncall for work & dern them...they called me in. Ugh! Plus I work the weekend. Ick.
Well have a great weekend everyone!

Shell,
It sounds like progress is being made, albeit slowly. it is great that you now have people in your corner who seem willing to speak on your behalf to make recommendations.
