You might remember that Euan (9, Asperger's) was going to be put forward for a national competitive creative writing workshop for gifted and talented high school students (aged 12-15) - I just found out he got accepted. He'll be the youngest by far - his school have nominated an 11 year old, but he's the only one younger than that, and apparently the youngest the programme have ever accepted. It won't be taken by JK Rowling, I knew that couldn't be true, but part of it will be taken by a university physics professor who'll do a workshop on the science and story-telling behind the 'moon landings a hoax' stories. This is so up Euan's street they may as well have designed it specially for him, he absolutely laps up physics, astronomy and conspiracy theories. He's flapping around the kitchen with excitement as I type this, and the school are going to send him with an aide.
And, lovely Aspie thing, he's a bit stressed because one of the workshops will be creating a story out of what they have in their pockets. 'What if I don't have anything in my pocket?' he wailed, and I pointed out that it wouldn't actually be cheating if he planned ahead and put some interesting things in his pocket to take with him. His eyes went huge. Oh lord, I'd better check them before I send him off, I dread to think what he can fit in there given a few days to plan (can you get an entire magic tricks set and all the Calvin and Hobbes comics in one pocket?)!!! LOL
