Finally got Nathan's schedule at school

Of course, I had to call and remind the spec ed teacher 2 days ago. She had originally said that she would have it me by last wed.

Anyway, I added everything up and it turns out that he's out of the classroom for 125min and in class for 160min. So, it doesn't look too bad. Surprisingly, he isn't even concerned about it. Last year, he didn't want to do anything different than the rest of his class. But he's not bothered by it this year. I asked him if he liked going out in the hall and he said yes. I then asked if it was quieter and easier to do his work and he definitely piped up and said yes immediately. The actual place that he works at in the hall is actually an open area right outside the classroom. There's about 4 tables set up, and other kids go out there too when they need extra help. The way they have it set up makes it look like an extension of the classroom...so that's nice. They have all the classroom artwork and such on the walls and hanging from the ceiling, etc.

Then, of course, he still has speech, time in spec ed, and social skills. Seems like such alot when you write it all out though, doesn't it? But he's happy and doing fine with the schedule so I'm happy.

Wow! It does sound like a lot but to be honest it's refreshing to see he's getting a lot of help.

Teresa,

It is nice that they're doing everything that he seems to need. The neuropsych had said that learning in small groups would work best for him, so I am glad that he's not just being thrown into a class with no help. He's getting extra instructions, and time to do his work too. And I like that fact that he gets music, PE, lunch and recess with his class. Being in social situations is something he needs to be exposed too.
