First day at new school tomorrow

After 3 1/2 years at the same school and 3 years with the same teacher, Mike has graduated and is moving on. We decided to have him start at his new school during ESY to help make a smoother transition for him while it is calmer and he doesn't gain stress over the whole summer.

Tomorrow is d-day. He and I are both a bit anxious I believe. He more so but he is handling it like a trooper. Of course I got to listen to the litany of the ESRB video game ratings of all the games he wants ala Rainman.

About 1/2 way through the litany I asked him if he was anxious about tomorrow and he answered YES! This is awesoem for him because he usually cannot verbalize that even if you ask. HOWEVER, when I tried to expand or go over a schedule to help he just ignored me and went back to the litany "...and that one is T for Blood and Violence...." Ah well. It was a start!

I have told him I will drop him the first couple days and stay until he is comfortable with me leaving. That helped. So we shall see.

Wish us luck. They don't take kids with severe behaviors there. Mike hasn't had a serious outburst at school in 2 years but they still were skeptical when reading his behavior plan. If he is going to have a serious outburst it will be in the beginning most likely due to all the changes. Pray that doesn't happen and they don't kick us out.

Renee,

I was thinking about you and Mike earlier this morning.

Dearest Renee,

Best wishes and lighting candles here in NYC as well. How did today go? Opposite is true here, ds was able to hold together under great stressors for initial weeks and even month, but then problems erupted .. of course in our case, the school then threw gas on the whole mess, over and over....

So I am really crossing fingers that this is just the perfect school for Mike's next phase of schooling!!!!! And anyways, yes, Mike has grown and the school he will be going to sounds much more within his capabilities, n'est pa?

Pax,

Sara
