First Sleepover tonight-- so nervous

Hi everyone, I lurk on this board often but felt compelled to post tonight. My 5-year-old AS son is having his very first sleepover tonight, other than grandparents house which he's done twice. His preschool, where he has been for 2 years, has a sleepover for the graduates. If I gave Ethan a choice he would have definitely said no, but i figure it has to happen sometime, and he is VERY comfortable with his teachers, and a few classmates. We had a little party before the sleepover and of course he wasn't running around crazy with the other boys, or playing house with the girls. That's the part that makes me sad. Remember the posturing for who you get to sleep next too? I know my guy will end up on the outside end. Anyway, I think it will be good experience for him to learn he can go it alone. I'm hoping it will give him a sense of confidence that he really needs before kindergarten. Still, IM" SOOO NERVOUS, i want to get in my car and go snatch him back. Anyone had a sleepover experience, good or bad? Hattie

Not a sleep over like that but I understand. It is so cute. I bet in his own way he will have a great time. But like all us moms you are still going to be horribly nervous. I would be surprised if you sleep at all tonight.

We have our first experience like that next fall for our son. He will be going to 5th grade camp. I am very nervous, but his AS sister did it and it was a fabulous time for her. His aide and teacher will be there and they will prepare the cabin counselor in advance (Mike's aide is a woman so the cabin counselor will have to be the one who keeps an eye overnight).

Cait slept over a couple friends houses. Once she was invited to a sleepover birthday. Scared the bejeepers out of me. Needless to say we were the first to pick up the next day adn there only ended up being 3-4 girls for the sleepover anyway. The other is a woman I am friends with and we have had the girls sleep over back and forth when they were younger. And then 5th grade camp 2 years ago. Camp was an awesome experience for her.

I hope he has a great night!

Yes, Malcolm has both slept over at friend's houses since he was 5 and also an overnight at day camp last summer. He loved it, but at the day camp he tossed and turned and shouted in his sleep, which kept the counsellots from getting much sleep... But he was so happy to have done it!

And he loves sleeping over at friend's houses. He likes to pretend he has sinlings, pets and a new mom and dad LOL.

Good luck to you with your nerves. I also bet he has a great time. What a lovely opportunity.

And welcome to the board.
