Last night, AS dh let the dog outside before bed. Our dog has separation anxiety so often follows me around the house. When I didn't see her following me, I asked dh whether he had let the dog back in. He "thought so," but couldn't remember. I opened the back door, and the dog came bounding in. I was apologizing to the dog and complimenting her on how patient she'd been when 13yo AS dd said, "she wasn't patient; she scratched at least 25 times." I asked why dd didn't let the dog in if she heard the dog scratching. She says, "I couldn't, I was in the bathroom." Okay, so why didn't you LET SOMEONE KNOW?! 9yo AS ds was also close to the back door but had been oblivious to the scratching. I could only laugh, knowing that this scenario only played out as a result of each of them having AS! At least the poor dog is somewhat used to us and ends up standing by the door waiting for someone to eventually let her in, rather than howling or doing something to disrupt the neighbors.
In regards to Concerta, my kids just started Concerta yesterday for their ADD. Both the 9 & 13yo had stomachaches all day, and then neither could go to sleep, even with melatonin. I ended up giving each child a little more melatonin, but even then, dd didn't fall asleep until after midnight, and ds was awake all night long. He kept awakening me all night to let me know what time it was and alerting me that he was still awake. Holy cow! He's home from school today trying to sleep. Do their bodies ever get used to the Concerta, or can I plan on the kids never sleeping if I keep them on the Concerta (I'd rather have distracted kids than tired/grumpy kids).

It can take a couple of weeks for their bodies to "get used to" the Concerta.
