Rene, you tried GABA with Mike, right? I was thinking of trying it for Kyle & Hannah. I was wondering what dose and brand you used.

For anyone who doesn't know what GABA is....GABA is a calming amino acid that's classified as a neurotransmitter. Its supposed to be good for anxiety along with magnesium & taurine (another amino acid).

Thanks,
Samantha

Samantha,

I'm not Renee, but here are my 2 cents anyway: As a neurotransmitter GABA will lower the seizure threshold, so I would be careful if there is any seizure risk.

Hey Samantha,

We tried a few different kinds. I think the better ones are the sublinguals, however, my kids hated the taste. One of the sublinguals was I think from Source Naturals and is called GABA calm. It has a couple other things in it as well.

This time with Mike we started it at the same time as the 5HTP and his bug phobia went through the roof. The doc had us cut out the GABA first and the fear got better for a little while and then increased again. I think the 5HTP was the main source of the phobia but I can't rule out the GABA contributing.

With Cait I didn't give it long enough to tell a difference. I was leary about giving it with her seizure meds and the seizure meds take care of all those problems for us.

When Mike was 4 I did give him the GABA calm for a while and it definitely did help it just was that it didn't help enough at the time and we didn't really know what we were dealing with. A recomendation was made ot see a doc and that was when we decided to try the medication route. Hindsight 20/20 the GABA in the long run was as helpful and not as harmful as the meds at that time. I can't get him to take that kind anymore.

I think the dose I gave last time started at 25mg and then went to 50mg. With the bug issue you may want to start lower and titrate up.

YUP! Thanks Paula for the reminder. I think that is why I didn't give it to Cait.
