Ok, So I went to the website for the brainchild supplements today and was trying to follow their flow chart to determine what would be best for Bobby.

Have you considered rice or soy milk? We tried both and my son took to them the same way as milk. I know different strokes for different folks though. It is possible his body doesn't digest the milk the same as others. For my son it makes his constipation worse. We will be going to a GI in about two weeks due to holding in BMs. Also I have really thought lately that a lot to do with behaviors is that at times ds's body is soaking in what is needed from foods etc, and other times NOTHING! He goes from one extreme to the other with BMs and there is a BIG difference in behaviors when he does. Just a thought!

let's see...a normal stool will have the consistency of play doh. but it does vary for each child. pardon the details, but color and odor also play a part in it too.

does your son have skin rashes too? that might be a flag for milk issues. do you have raw milk available in your area? some moms feel that it's much better because the natural enzymes in raw milk help with digestion, that it's the pasturized milk that is harder to digest. there is soy, rice, potatoe and so on. you could try those, but your best bet would be to mix them until you have all substitute and no cow milk.

the undigested veggies and fruits indicate a problem with digestion. isnt a major thing, but he's likely unable to get all the nutritional benefit from his food. digestive enzymes help with that. for instance, houston's zyme prime works with carbs and breaks down cell walls as with veggies and fruits. therefore, would help him absorb the good stuff. their other main product, peptizyde, works with protein digestion. so that could help with milk digestion and still allow your child to drink milk. enzymes do not help with true allergies to a food, but can with sensitivities.

Here are my ideas.......

If you think that he has a general GI problem (he has a hard time digesting in general, not specific to a particular food) changing to a milk substitute will not help him much. Soy, rice, nut....etc milks are hard to digest. Lactose in milk is the hard to digest part. If your not concerned about a Casein sensitivity (milk protein) than you can try low-lactose or lactose free dairy and see if that helps. Ages cheeses and yogurt are pretty low in lactose and will help with calcium intake. You could sub. homemade yogurt smoothies for the milk for a while and see if that helps. Also raw fruits and veggies are really hard to digest, especially skins and seeds; that may explain the grape tomato explosion. My DS loves raw veggies so it was hard for us to cut them out, but he got used to it and it really helped bring his gut back to a more normal environment. His problem was constipation but the protocol is pretty much the same. He can tolerate raw fruits and veggies now fine as long as we watch his lactose intake. Well ripe bananas (with some brown spots and no green) and avocados are ok raw though.

If you think he has an allergy or sensitivity to a particular food then cutting that out totally is the way to go. It's figuring out what's causing the reaction that's the hard part! BTW, some people's food sensitivities lessen once they get they digestive system figured out. Check out breakingtheviciouscycle.info and pecanbread.com on some more info.

Good luck!!!
