Well the aide wasn't there again yesterday so I decided to investigate. The principal just found out late yesterday (though this happened last week) that the aide was on paid leave until at least March 15 pending investigation. The aide says it was a seizure and has to provide medical proof to that effect in the interim. So I was asked to investigate if we wanted a sub aide in the interim. All reports were that Mike was doing surprisingly well on his own.
I have seen a drastic increase in behaviors in the past week or 2. Slowly increasing but definitely picking up velocity and getting worse daily. They are seeing an increase in stress behaviors at school but he is holding it together supposidly.
Well after talking to and observing he doesn't appear to be holding it together as well as I thought. YES definitely much better than expected but the kid needs an aide YESTERDAY!
On Thursday (last day before long weekend) he got a pink slip for hitting a girl who was being bossy and bugging him.
On Tuesday (first day back from break) his mainstream teacher had to take a good deal of time out of class time to calm him down on a couple occasions while the other kids waited (he is only in her class 1/2 day at this point)
Today I was heading back to my car during his recess when I heard him screaming from across the parking lot. He was chasing his one "friend" (you know, the kid who lies. Mentioned him before). He wanted to say "hi" to JP but JP kept running away and was laughing at the good time he was having pissing Mike off. I went onto the playground and ran his behavior program and got him to calm. The aide from the SDC class never saw because she was with the other kids in a totally different section. This is why he needs his OWN AIDE. If I wasn't there he WOULD have pummelled the kid.
I just feel a big monster meltdown problem at school in the air.
And I was told "they are doing all they can" on a district level. They have some new person getting fingerprinted and if it passes may be able to start in a few days.
Ready to spit nails.
Oh and I have a fun IEP for Cait Tomorrow morning. YIP-FRICKEN-EEE

At this point, If I were you, I would ask/demand a new aide, as it shows she has problems with consistantly with showing up. Mike might be upset for a bit, but if he had a better aide, who was more consistant, it would help him in the long run.
But what the hay do I know? lol. I haven't even gotten to the IEP point yet lol. I just know what I would do when it came to consistancy....
I sure hope tomorrow goes well Renee {{{HUGS}}}
When are these school district "experts" going to figure out that kids on the spectrum need CONSISTENCY??? UGH! It makes me crazy. I know that in many areas it's hard as heck to find decent para-pros, our area included, but if they'd pay these people more than $8/hour, I bet they'd be more likely to show up, every day, on time...ready to keep their jobs! These kids can't deal with this bullcr*p! "Here's some help today. Oh, but no help tomorrow. Here's a different person to trust this week, oh...wait, let's see if this new person can handle being a 1:1."
I've often thought that the ideal situation for me would be to swap kids with another autism mom...she could be Claire's 1:1 and I could be the 1:1 for her child. Wouldn't that be great???
I feel like a broken record, but I'm sorry you're dealing with this Renee. It stinks.

"they are doing all they can"
Both you and I know that is a crock.

My SIL has a parent of an ASD kid as an aide for her son. It works out GREAT according to her. Not a shabby idea. There are plenty of ASD kids in each school where the mom perhaps can't work because of challenges involving that ASD child. So let them work in that school as an aide for another child, then they are still there right on campus if something happens.
Wait, nope, that is too easy. Makes too much sense. Not enough beuracracy.
You will LOVE this. There is the grandma type person who was temporarily at the front desk of the school. She needs a new position. Has ALREADY been fingerprinted and hired by the school. ALREADY knows Mike and he knows her. Has just that perfect grandma type personality he would trust right away, etc. HOWEVER! Because she hasn't been hired as an AIDE she can't be an aide (not even temporary) until she goes through that entire process and then maybe would get placed with Mike.
OH, and the respite dude is making me crazy. On Tuesday, DH came home to the garage door and front doors open, the big dog in the front yard (she will jump the front fence and due to her large size she does scare those who often walk our street) and Cait home alone. If Cait is alone we ALWAYS make sure everything is completely locked up. I don't know. When I leave a house I make sure it is secured. Thought it was common sense! Not to Manny.
Then we find out Mike was getting in trouble at the park and Manny is starting to have trouble handling him.
So DH has a talk with Manny. He didn't think it was HIS job to talk to and discipline Mike at the park because he isn't his dad. No you are not his dad but you are the one in charge. WTF do you think you are here? AND he had no clue why he shouldn't leave all the doors open. UH cause you just left my 12yo daughter home alone?
So today I have to leave him with a precise list of all the household rules. He is to ONLY take Mike to the park and only then if he feels he is able to act in leu of us and keep him and others safe.
They need to pay respite workers more than $8 a hour and perhaps actually do some training with them.
