OK, So I run into Mike's autism co-teacher this AM. I am telling her about visiting this non-public school (NPS) today when she gives me the "why? I have a proposal into the district to start a 6th grade class for kids like him for next year. It looks like it is a go, we dont know where it will be yet but it won't be at (Cait's school)".
WHEN THE HECK WERE THEY GOING TO TELL ME!!!!!!
I have been asking for Months. I have been calling my program specialist for weeks with no return call. I have been PREPARING MIKE for possibly going to the NPS. The poor kid is more stressed than I am about where he is going to go. He can't wait until the summer to have the final info on where he is going.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
So I leave in about 15 minutes to go visit the NPS. Is it a total waste of time now or what?
OHHHH, and when I arrive this AM, Mike's teacher tells me that the new social skills group Mike is in was set to start meeting today. OK but I never ever knew there was a new social skills group but it seems like a small group from his day class similar to what is now, ok. THEN I find out from the autism co-teacher that this is actually a group for Mike with other kids from RSP. It isn't starting because those kids haven't sent back in the permission forms yet.
I realize it is a good idea but I sure as heck would have liked to know!
Then I find out that I didn't get to make a meeting on going over some stuff with the autism co-teacher because I was sick? HUH. I know it was a mis communication somewhere and maybe once a meeting had come up and we never were able to finalize. I think I flaked too.
I have got to get on these people. I am feeling way WAY out of the loop all of a sudden.

ok, stress jumped the gun. The visit to the NPS went great. Mike is in love and wants to go there. They had all kinds of animals (lizards, snakes, fish, etc) and legos. They had 1 computer for every 2 kids. They use the 5 point scale like Mike for ALL the kids. They have yoga daily, horsebackriding once a week and swimming 2x a month. They have on site speech and OT. OHHHH and they have a suspension swing and a rock climbing wall inside the school.
Now I have to talk to John, the program specialist, et al. and get stuff lined up but I am thinking this is the right place for him now and I want to get the decision made so we can get him a spot reserved while there still is one. The program specialist went to and loved the program.
Ugh, gotta make a couple calls on questions I forgot to ask.

Renee,
Sorry to hear you were out of the loop on that. But it sounds like in the end it, it just might turn out to be a great program. Definitely some amazing things going on there. I'm glad that it ended up going better than expected.
