Well, I decided to take the plunge and start a blog. I figure rather than repeating myself, it will be easier for me to tell people who ask to see my blog (not just here, it's more an issue in my real life!) Plus I can put lots of links and other info.
I'm not a professional web person, just using a template, free-service, but it's a start.
Since the question comes up here about diets a lot, I hope to make my blog a good resource and I also will eventually add in some "couch time" and "mommy talk" once I get the basic gfcf content up.
Here is is: http://www.gfcfmommy.blogspot.com
Remember, I'm a total newbie at this blog stuff and this is a work-in-progress, but it's kind of fun!

I'll have such a great weekend now knowing you all find my little project helpful Thanks for all the encouragement!
Hugs to all!

Dear Katherine,
Well, I gotta say, your artsy-writer side is sure on display at your site, WELL DONE!!! The format, information and tone is TERRIFIC. Wow. I will also forward this to others.
As you know, we were glutein and casein-free when Malcolm was little and we are still mostly dairy-free, now with digestive enzymes. I remember the early days and this site would have been invaluable. At the time, it was hard for me to find much online that didn't seem SO stringent, like that I would so have to spend hours and hours in kitchen (THAT wasn't happening lol).
Anyways, high five,
Sara
Hi Katherine,
I just jumped the wagon of this GFCF diet. The gluten free part hasn't been bad, but we are only 75% there. I am behind in casien free, say 60%. I have ordered the milk (Dari) and waiting for it. For now, we use rice milk (which says gluten free) 50% and regular milk 50%. We have switched to rice cheese. Next for gluten is the bread and the bagel. I have to look for that. Thanks for this blog. Are are continuing to see changes in Eric? How is summer going so far? I love this blog, will be a regular reader. I am super new to this blogging.
take care,
Anandhi
Katherine,
You don't need to do anything, not unless you have a specific logo you'd like us to use. In that case I'd say send me a .jpeg copy at drendrewolf@yahoo.com. I'll be getting the link up sometime this weekend. It will be in HealthWise, and if Mindy okay's it, in Arts&Leisure as well. I'll shoot you an email when it's up.

That's great Candes. I don't have a special logo, just a link is fine with me.
Thanks again!
Katherine
I am so glad you find this helpful! It may take me awhile to get all my ideas down, so be patient and keep checking back. I will probably post more during the week than the weekends.
Eric gets better all the time, and I know we are very lucky. His gains are not all due to the diet, of course, the therapies have been essential. But I guess I view his basic physical health as kind of a baseline. The diet is kind of the underlying foundation he needs to be healthy, and with that in place, he can learn and grow, which he is doing all the time.
But, when we started the diet we did see changes pretty quickly, especially at first. Since then it is more of a maintenance thing. However, there have been a couple of times over the last 2 years when he got some gluten item for one reason or another. He was one sad and sick little puppy then! So that showed us we needed to stick to it.
Interestingly, Eric remembers begin sick, which he hated. It was traumatic for him, I remember him crying and crying and saying he "could not control his thoughts" and he had tummy pain and was really clingy and anxious. We all felt so bad for him. But it kind of taught him to always ask "will this make me sick" before he takes food from others. So it was a blessing in disguise.
Summer has been great! He has been in a day camp for HF special needs children and having a total ball. Next we are going on vacation in Colorado, which we do every year. I have a computer out there and will probably write about doing GFCF while traveling.
I am so glad to you have you as one of my first regular readers!
Katherine
Thank you, Sara!
I am so glad you think it will be helpful for people just starting. That is my goal. I hope you are having a good summer too. I always think about you and the school situation and am hoping things work out for Malcolm and you all.
Katherine
Hi Katherine,
Thanks for your kind words. This summer, with the great camp and all, is terrific, thank Gawd. We are all 3 having a very relaxed, fun summer and August looks to be even better.
The "school situation" is kinda working out, the problem in most ways is about dh and my well-being more than Malcolm's. Malcolm is growing, accomplishing and flourishing in leaps and bounds and would that we could just come into an unexpected, rawther large inheritance so that dh and I could scale back on having to make money and focus on homeschooling and taking care of ourselves!!!
Money is the biggest issue. The costs of living in NYC plus the outlay we have for Malcolm's therapies and afterschool-type activities is a huge amount. The way we did this last year, both of us working fulltime on flex schedules and handing ds back and forth --- well, we have so got it that it will not and did not work well for dh and I -- in fact, it almost killed our marriage and both of us. SO, we are both working very hard right now on reorganizing, mostly so I can pull back or rearrange MY work, also trying to cut every extra expense we can without adding too much hardship to our lives, etc.
We are still looking at a few off-beat school scenarios, I am so gun-shy about schools -- so looking into them further will start in late Sept. when ds can spend time in the classrooms and we and our therapeutic team can assess the possibilities further. At the same time, we are preparing to homeschool in a MUCH better way should that be what is best for another year or 2 ... or forever.
There you go, a prolific answer to a few simple questions. I hope you are having a great summer as well. As others have said, it sure was fab to see the adorable pics of Eric on your site.
yours,
Sara
