Gifts for Therapists

Hi all,
Jake is getting ready to transition to the I.U April 21st. He has been in E.I since he was 11 months old so needless to say he has become very attached to all the therapist and I have to say we have been very fortunate with the people we have worked with. I would like to get them each a gift and would like it to be something meaningful that they could keep but I have no idea what to get. Any ideas?

Dear Teresa,
A beautiful framed portrait of your child is good. I always feel like our therapists become part of the family, most of them. Baked goods, money, a testimonial letter for their files. I always write mushy stuff on cards.
They become so attached and saying goodbye is just as hard for them, btw. We are about to change bus driver and matron AGAIN and they are already moaning about missing ds.
Others here may have better ideas. I haven't always been so creative, but I do always want our therapists to know how much they mean to us.

The one gift I really went out of my way for was the ST who finally got Peter to really communicate:
We got a mug (original, I know) but with Peter's picture on one side, and on the other a poem I had written:
Ode to D.
When first we met,
I was none too excited
The world was a party.
I wasn't invited.
But you worked with me
And the mystery unfurled.
You gave me my voice
And that opened the world.
She cried.
So a poem or a sentiment in a hand-made frame woudl be a good gift. I knwo therapists generally prefer things with part of the kid thereon -a photo or a kid-made gift. My friend's child made his OT a pencil holder out of popsicle sticks, and the OT still uses it three years later.

I am uniquely unoriginal! So I gave gift certificates to a bookstore...
Then I had lunch delivered for all of them to their weekly team meeting. They seemed to like that and sent me of photo of themselves eating it!

I've never given a gift to a therapist, but for Ian's teachers who were especially good with him I have sent just a little token gift. I know they get so many gifts I try to have it be something they can consume rather than a nick nack. I put most of the effort into a note on the card expressing how much Ian got from them and whatever specifically they did that I thought was especially meaningful to Ian. I have always gotten a phone call or email or note thanking me and saying how much they appreciated the card. I think most people really love to hear how much of a difference they make to your child. Who isn't moved by knowing they have made a very positive difference in someone's life? I think that's the best gift.
I loved the poem, BTW.
