Glad the holiday is over...vent

I'm mainly a lurker and rarely post. Glad more on the fact my sister returned home. LOL! She lives in the east while I and the rest of the family live in the midwest. I love her to death but she is very high opiniated, yell first think second, yadda yadda. She has two little kids with the oldest being 2 (turns 3 this month), whom is a boy. My ds, Dakota, has PDD-NOS, ADHD, and slight ODD and has a big, big sensitivity to noise and touch. I love my nephew to death however he can barely talk (which I'm actually concerned about but my sister doesn't seem to be...go figure) & instead he'll scream especially when excited. He gets quite loud. Dakota would flip when ever he screamed by him. First he'd yell "stop it." repeatedly but my nephew would only continue or get louder. If I was around I would have seperated them at this point however sometimes it wasn't the case. After Dakota yells "stop it" and that doesn't make it stop he would then hit his cousin. By all means I do not accept this behavior, however, since the slap makes my nephew cry, here comes my sister running in (before I'm able to get there) and screams at my son. Literally screams at him and talks to as if he was an adult. Telling him "he's my son...don't you hit my son ever again." On and on she went. She was quite verbally abusive. I'm of course boiling but it literally wouldn't have done any good had I tried to intervene. Eeeerrrr She's the type of person if you do anything would only fuel her anger.

Well, after her devilish rant was over, I check on Dakota to make sure he was mentally okay. Dakota would keep repeating "he's too loud." I tried to explain that is how his nephew communicates but Dakota couldn't grasp that concept. Poor kid. Then tried to explain that to my sister once she calmed down but she found it hard to believe that Dakota couldn't understand why her son screams. It was like talking to a wall to both parties. This whole ordeal occured several times & she has gone as far as trying to ground him but I wouldn't allow it. I just said grounding him isn't going to help him understand (I actually tried that once but all Dakota said when pouting was "he keeps screaming at me...I don't like that kid he keeps screaming and then it happens all over again ) and that she just needs to take steps to make sure her son stays clear of mine. All my kid was doing was playing games on the playstation (I even tried moving it to another room.).

It was a nightmare. Like I said I love my sister but thank goodness she's back home. :-) Hope your Holidays were better. Oh, Dakota was happy this Christmas. His current obsession is Star Wars & that pretty much what he got Star Wars stuff like playstation games and toys. I think Dakota played best with his baby cousins. He loves babies.

Oh man, your poor kid! I know that hitting is wrong, but sometimes when you can't get someone to stop doing something, its a total normal reaction to hit to get them to do it. Especially if another adult won't intervene to help him (the screamers mother)

Glad you and your kids are over the holidays.

Yikes! I'm glad she is gone too, lol. I am from the midwest too, about an hour from STL, and my dh is Nathan, and I have a 7, 4, and 1 yr old. A lot in common, huh?! :)

Welcome-out of lurkedom. I'm glad your sis is gone too. :-)
I'm also in the midwest...but I'm on the IL side of the river.

(Chrissy, I spent 6+ years in St. Louis-mostly in West County. Where are you???)

HI - I live in IL and had lived down in the St. Louis Area (Cahokia, IL) where I went to Parks College (no longer located there but in St Louis itself) for 2 years before moving where I live now. Ah, seems like ages ago I lived down there....another lifetime. LOL!
