Gluten Free/Casein Free/Dan Dr. Question

Hello.
Just curious how many of you have taken your children to see a Dan! Doctor (Defeat Autism Now)? What were your experiences? Did they start your child on supplements, vitamins/minerals, Gluten Free/Casein Free diets? We took our son (3 1/2 yrs old) to see a Dan! Dr a few weeks ago. I was not too impressed with her. She was very knowledgeable however did not give us too much guidance when it came to the supplements/vitamins. I guess I need a doctor who will "hold my hand" and tell me exactly what to do for my son step-by-step. Oh... and by the way...she was expensive too (insurance does not pay for these Dan! Dr's)

Hi,
Well I don't have any experience with a DAN! Doctor, but I want to welcome you here.
I also want to welcome you here to a great board noone wants to join, but we do have a good time. We have not been to a Dan! doctor, although we do give some supplements to our now 10-year-old son, such as Complete Omegas, extra calcium and zinc, a strong multivitamin and a probiotic. We did do a wheat-free, dairy-free diet when ds when 3 and for many years. Now we still do not do dairy and he takes digestive enzymes, and does very well on them.
But all the other things you are writing about, we did ... preschool, OT, etc. social skills groups, and ds still does many of these today. He is a great kid and learning all the time. I think that schedule sounds almost too much for a 3 years old!!! And certainly like enough!!! The only other thing we started doing at this age was plenty of one-on-one playdates with other children and lots of parent intervention to learn how. And many of ds' current wonderful friends are from those days and playdates. And many of our ds' friends are also like him, somewhere on the autistic spectrum, don't be afraid of letting your child learn along with other children who might struggle some, learning along with peers is a GOOD way to learn. Another side benefit of this has been forming strong relationships with other parents of kids like mine, which is a terrific resource!
Stick around, we'll be happy to have you in our gang.
yours,
Sara
I'll add my welcome here.
